Cody's Corner of Random Rehabbing & Shenanigans

Well, loud and control panel are faded badly, as I expected from the photo.

Frame is rust free. Casters roll free and lock unlock nicely. One wheel with a good insert for restoring. Z bars rust free rough durawood. Center burner (side holes) and crossover tube are intact and solid.

Best part - 7/10 grease tray and porcelain coated drip pan!

Side question. Anyone ever seen this? It was on the tank side, between the lower shelving, resting on the axle, right below the tank hanger.

That's a pretty odd fade pattern on the control panel. It looks like dirt that's been smeared around.

That bracket is interesting. I will be interested to find out what it is for. It does look like something that could very possible be part of the grill. But I am totally unfamiliar with it.

I was thinking about that too, and I want to say I've seen that part before on pictures of export grills. I think it is some kind of tank holder/bracket for European spec propane tanks.

I was really hoping between these two I’d have one great grill. But another badly faded control panel. I’ve got a couple good ones, but was hoping one of these two would clean up well.

These are the reasons I always say, if you see one, go for it. You never know if you’ll find a gem.

Was that serial number for the grill with the U/I bracket?

If so, it comes back as:
  • Genesis 1000 LX LP Blk (USA)
  • 211701

This is why I say, just go get it if you see it! 😍 10/10 for a used one! This was a fun surprise! That’s just a quick razor and wipe.

Also the first “faded” green lid I’ve seen. But you have to look for it.

Both cook boxes were in phenomenal shape. The screws that held in the the burners, as well as the grease tray rails came right out.

Unfortunately on the first (black) grill I posted, the rust free frame decided that all 4 bolts that hold the lower cross-supports in would just free spin in the tubes. I am taking that frame to work to get apart.

No problem, I'll find a picture of one on a grill eventually if it's what I think it is.

Is it a tank support piece? I didn’t notice it until I was unloading it.

I still think you're tempting fate by removing those. I go with never on the burner screws, and only if they need to be replaced on the grease tray rails.

Yeah, that's pretty much par for the course on these things in our climate. At least it's pretty easy to get the frames apart when it happens.

That's what I thought at first, now I'm not so sure. I can't find any pictures of grills with that exact piece on them.

I can't find anything either

I hate seeing janky - half burnt away screws in a cookbox of a restored or rehabbed grill. The smallest of details matter to me. I can drill them out when they break even if it’s a huge pain in my arse!

And to me, its not a restoration if every screw doesn’t come out.

Okay, just joined this site, so I am probably posting in the wrong place. Feel free to direct me elsewhere if appropriate, but I am looking for a little info.

I have an old Weber Genesis Silver B. It's about 25 years old. I've replace flavorizer bars, grates, burners, etc. a couple of times over the years, so it still works pretty well. While I am not looking to do a full rehab yet, I have run into one issue. Both of the long horixontal lower frame bars that support the metal rack at the bottom of the grill have come out. This reduces the structural integrity of the grill. The bars themselves are fine, but I can't find the connectors that hold the horizontal bars to the vertical posts. They've largely rusted away, but here is a shot of one of them. Can anyone tell me what this is and where I might find it?

Many thanks,
Gregg

This is a specific thread and you probably would have been better off starting your own new thread in the gas grill forum section:
