Cleaning Out Ash: A Must?

.............I always use new briquettes when smoking so the times are predictable.

After that, I remove the charcoal grate, pick up the base of the smoker and dump the ashes into the garbage can. It takes only a couple of minutes and keeps the smoker ready to go for the next smoke. Further, it probably will lead to a longer life for the unit and that is GOOD!

Ditto...:)

I generally clean them out of my grills the following day. This way they have had plenty of time to cool. I too believe that wet ash promotes corrosion in your cookers. Also, if you do not have a cover for your WSM and it gets rained on, it WILL leak water and combine with the ash to be a mess.
