Clean Probe

Hello everyone, I've had my 18½" WSM for about 2 months now, and I was wondering whether or not I should be cleaning the probe. There's a build up of black on it atm, but I don't want to damage it, I've read the 'bullit sticky' and done a search, but can't find a mention of it. Thanks

Gary

I never cleaned mine. Leave it alone. I may be wrong maybe other members will say otherwise?

Only clean the meat probe. Do it when you pull it out of the meat and its easy to clean with just a wet cloth. Wait and it dries crusty.

I toss mine in the dishwasher with the grates. I put them on the top cultlery rack and pull them out before the drying cycle. Just let them sit on the counter for a day or so and they look like new. Sometime with particularly messy cooks, I'll pull them out 1/2 way and use a vegetable brush quickly, but it's pretty easy going.

Hmmmm I have never even looked at it. I say leave it alone. As far as washing the grates I am pretty sure my wife would kill me for sticking those in the dishwasher. Maybe my next purchase should be a used portable dishwasher to stick in the garage eh?

Do like I do. Just wait after wifey goes to bed, and the start the nefarious behavior. I'm not sure why they cannot get that whatever is on the grates, also now resides in their stomachs after eating the cooked food, but I find arguing the simple logic just isn't worth the hassle.
