First the charcoal review.
It's a local product, so please skip on down to the cook if you wish.
Rockwood lump charcoal is pretty new to the scene here in the St Louis, MO area.
Made in MO from oak, hickory, and maple.
Naked Whiz has a review here, and rates it highly.
The bag.
Mostly nice size medium pieces.
Only odd piece found so far, a branch.
It fired up nicely, minimum sparking, nice mild 'campfire' smell.
Since lump burns hot, I don't use much for a quick grilling session.
The remains this morning after closing down last night.
At $17 per 20 lb. bag, it's not cheap. (some places charge $20)
I've been using Ozark Oak lump from Arkansas, and love it. ($15 per 20 lbs)
Rockwood is a bit more sparky, but not bad at all.
The smoke smell is great, but more mild than Ozark Oak.
Burn time was, to me, about the same.
It has mostly medium size pieces, and this I really like.
Bottom line, it's my new go to lump, in large part because it's a darn good charcoal, and a local product.
Bone-in chops were on last night's menu.
No brine, or marinade used, just Weber's Steak 'n Chop seasoning.
Other's have been grilling okra, so I wanted to try it too.
Oil, salt, and pepper. The W's are for Weber of course.
Chops over Rockwood.
Plated with steamed 'gus, and salt boiled new reds.
A very tasty meal enjoyed by Jo Anne and yours truly!
No grilling, but here is this morning's smoked sausage & cheese egg McBobelete.
Enjoyed outside in the fall like weather we've been having.
If you made it this far, Thank You for the visit!
edit to add, I'm not affiliated in any way with Rockwood.
