Hello everyone, I have a older model 18.5 WSM that is probably 10 years old, I have not used in about a year, today I noticed my charcoal grate has broken in half from rust and my ring has a small half inch section that has rusted. Has any one experience pd this problem? Also, do I need to buy a actual grate or could I use, like a smokey joe old grill grate?

You can probably get a charcoal grate from Home Depot or other local store. You can definitely get them online.
The ashes from charcoal are corrosive. I recommend removing them when they are cool. Despite that, 10 yrs is a pretty good life expectancy for those items that take the most abuse.

I made a basket out of expanded wire and clamped it to the lower charcoal grate.. works great
