Cast iron griddle for 18" kettle?

I was cooking on a friend's Weber gasser the other day and its half was a cast iron hotplate - we made some incredible food on it.

I wonder if it'd be possible to add a cast iron griddle (hotplate) to my 18" kettle as well. Would a half moon griddle fit somehow (like the Kamado Joe Classic's one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B014346B7O/ maybe paired with their normal half moon grate, or is there a better approach? Thanks!

You can put a cast iron skillet or hotplate on top of your grates. I use the CI all the time to cook on my kettles.

This is a griddle that came with a POS box store gasser. The box store gasser is long gone.

Pat's answer is spot on. I have started using my Lodge cast iron skillets on my Performer and the results are wonderful. The best part is that they can be used both on the kettle and your cooktop in the house.

I do have a 10" cast iron pan right for that purpose and it works but it's pretty small and no bigger pan would fit my kettle because of the pan's handle. Also it's very thick and heavy, and it feels like it keeps back the kettle a lot - placing the CI pan into an 570F kettle it threw it back to around 460F and I couldn't heat it any higher. It might be similar with a griddle though..

How about putting a whole hotplate into the kettle to get more space? Something like this: http://images.obi.de/product/HU/378x283/270367_1.jpg, without its feet? That's around 17.7" though so I'm not sure if it wouldn't just cover the whole fire too much, leaving too few space for airflow. What do you think?

I am not sure, but I think that piece would cause ventilation issues. You might be better of looking for a used 22" kettle for your purposes. Just a thought. Also, check Amazon for Lodge skillets without handles. I know they have a few.

Check this one on US Amazon

I think the Weber 7421 Gourmet system griddle would work fine.
It measures about 15" including the handles, and the griddle/pan part is 12"
35 bucks on Amazon

+1 for the cast iron pizza pan. I have a similar 14" chapa in enameled cast iron and it has become almost indispensable. Makes a great pizza too!

I'm also looking forward to trying out a new cordeirite grilling stone the goddess picked up as a gift for me yesterday in a discount bin while she was out on errands. Apparently the sear is supposed to be incredible.
