Can't get enough heat

I'm glad lump charcoal is helping you out in such a cold climate. I'll have to keep the welding blanket in mind. Was that option more for wind, or heat loss from cold weather?

The blanket certainly helps with heat loss in the wind. It's only on the sides of the cooker so there's still some heat loss through the top, but it's certainly very manageable. I just couldn't keep enough heat before and ran through a bag of Kingsford in an all-day cook. Now with good lump, the blanket, and the HeaterMeter I believe I could go 24 hours of low and slow, starting with a full-to-the-top ring of charcoal and no added fuel during the cook. And I used the water pan and had to add water mid-cook.

Incredible the improvement that a few little changes can make.
