{Buying} Middle burner tube & 18m x 1.5 hex nut

I know it's an odd request but I'm trying to keep my 97 Genesis 1000 LP XL as close to original as possible. I'm restoring one I recently purchased and most everything is good, except a rusted out middle burner tube and the hex nut used for the igniter under the control panel.

Any help is appreciated.

Floyd, if one of the burner tubes is shot, then you probably can expect the others to go soon. You could buy a new full set of OEM Weber burners. If you need a new nut for an igniter, you could just buy a new one and grab the nut from it. It would probably cost as much to have someone send one in the mail.

Where are you at in Michigan. You should consider attending the First Annual TVWBB Upper Midwest Meet on June 19th. I am sure I have a used burner tube and igniter nut that I could bring for you.

Way to go promoting the get together, Bruce! You da man!
Wish I could be there, still working on the “virtual” presence.

Floyd, that sounds like a common metric nut. Without seeing it, I would suspect that it's a "thin" nut, i.e very light duty. If you haven't, check your local hardware store's fastener aisle. There's a fair chance that you'll just be able to pick it out of a bin.

No, those are unique nuts. Basically they are just formed out of sheet metal.

Oh, THOSE things.... that makes sense, it should be a light duty fastener. <scratches head> I don't think that they're unique to a Weber igniter, but an M18 is going to be a bit larger than I'm used to seeing. I'd still check the local hardware fastener aisle, i have seen the bins for those.

JKalchick: I just am not sure those will be a common item in HW stores. Maybe, but I am skeptical.

True.... you sort of do need to find the old school type of hardware store to even have a shot at finding that sort of thing.

As an example.... 10 years ago, I had a problem with the whippletree screw on my pop-up camper. I discovered that I needed a 5/8"-11 tap (for external threads) to clean up some threads on the clutch mechanism. My local Ace not only had 1, but 3, on the shelf. For a 2nd example, when I was still in Chicago, I was looking for a 1/8" NP tap for internal threads. Went to the local Ace, got a blank stare from the youngster who asked if he could help, then he went and found the oldest guy in the shop. This gent promptly pointed to the right hook. These are the stores that I like to patronize.

I have to admit, my curiosity bump is tickling. I'm probably going to stop & look just for grins this week.

I think this is the "nut" that he is looking for circled in blue.

Correct, it's that specific nut. I could buy the entire assembly but for the same reason as the burner tube I'd like to avoid replacing as much as possible. Ship of Theseus and all of that :D

I'm in the Detroit area of Michigan but due to work restraints and short notice (I've only recently found this forum and about the meet-up) I won't be able to plan around it. Thank you for the offer though, I'm jealous I can't make it.

Please do, I would be interested to find out if they have those.
I ran out this afternoon to pick up some charcoal, and wandered through the fastener aisles. I know I've seen those on the shelf, but unfortunately not here. I have had a little luck digging around a network search for stamped or panel nuts.
