Greetings from New Jersey.
I met my future wife in 1988, and she thought it was a little weird that I didn’t own a TV- I liked her enough and decided to rectify that- we went to the local appliance chain one night after work.
Leaving the store we passed a woman who asked us if we wanted a cookie? Sure- she lifted up the lid of a grill and got two fresh baked cookies and handed them to us. They were pretty good- fast forward three years and we got married- bought a house and eventually were flush enough to buy a barbecue grill- that demonstration three years earlier really stuck in my head and off we went and bought a Genesis 1000 in red.
A really great grill, used it all four seasons and only replaced the original steel grates and flavorizer bars.
Never thought too much about it, but this past spring the grill wasn’t heating to my satisfaction- I thought it might have been the drip pan which wasn’t on the grill anymore since the holder bars rusted off.
It turns out one of the stainless burner tubes was corroded.
Well here I am. I found this forum searching for information about renovating my old grill.
I am in the process and finishing the renovation, found some good information here and punted on the rest.
And yeah, around the time we bought this grill, a Weber advertising campaign slogan was “buy your last grill first”. Since I am kinda old now, it turns out that might have been an example of truth in advertising, lol.
Cheers
