I saw a thread someone started a couple of weeks ago and they said the broke out their nifty fifty lens and this inspired me to do the same, so here goes.

First cook on my new Grill Grates.

Seasoned, oiled and on to the grates

After first flip. Serious grill marks and sticking. I think the fire was a tad hot.

Cheese melted and ready to come off.

As stated earlier I had some serious sticking issues. ugh!

Plated and ready to eat.

Firecracker chicken this evening and thanks for your time.

Burgers and photos are excellent Dean! I'm thinking that the grates just need a bit of seasoning to release the burgers a bit easier.

Thanks Pete. I hope you are right on the seasoning of the grates. One thing is I think I let them get too hot because there was several minutes with the bottom damper wide open and the lid off before I put the burgers on but I really think I'm going to learn to love the grill grates.

Thanks for the kind words regarding the pictures and you're right these are much better than my previous posts using pictures from my iPhone. I must not use the phone anymore.

I grease my Grill Grates before use (folded paper towel dipped in Canola Oil held with my tongs and wiped over the grates). I also oil my burgers (helps the browning). The combination seems to keep the burgers from sticking.

I did oil the burgers and next time I will oil the grates as well. Even though the sticking didn't adversely affect the taste of the end product it was nonetheless aggravating.

Great looking burgers Dean, I love my GG's, use them all the time. If you got to hot you probably burned off the seasoning pretty quick. You also should do as Robert said and grease the grates each time.
Also you are supposed to cook at lower heat with GG's so turn down the gas or use less coals or raise the grate

Some grate looking burgers!!!! :D When you guys say to cook at a lower temp using the grill grates what temp should you be cooking at?

I'm not sure of an actual temp John, according to their instructions that came with them they indicated that due to the thermal efficiency of the grates to cook at little lower temps than usual.
I have found that to be true for me, I use less charcoal and lower the gas too. I have found out like Dean did if you get them too hot the seasoning will burn right off.

Ha ha, I was looking at those great pictures and thinking I have to stop taking pics with my stupid Blackberry. I'm also getting ready to order some GG's for my gas grill, you convinced me to do it sooner...

Delicious looking burgers Dean! Also oiling does help, but you have to remember that if your grill is
running at 350 it is actually 450+ on the grill grates. This is according to their web site and videos. Just for info.

Thanks for the info Mike and I will have to keep in mind to reduce the charcoal/heat when using the grill grates.

I've had my grill grates for a while and the sticking definitely improved over time. I oil them up once they're hot , and I don't get much sticking at all. I feel like they are well seasoned now.

the burgers look great BTW and the pictures are very clear. :wsm:

has anyone replaced their standard gas grill "cooking grids" with grill grates, rather than just laying them on top?
6 of the 17x5's will fit my gas grill perfectly
