Bringing New Life to an Old "Platypus"

Adding to this old thread as I saw this very cool "Stealth" mod version of the Platinum One Touch listed on FBM in Maryland:

I spotted this yesterday and told Josh this was exactly how I envisioned restoring one if I ever came across one! Amazing it popped up-maybe it's trying to tell me something! Wondered if that paint was the hammered metal type/color.

I had been toying with a really over the top Philippine mahogany set of tables, handles and powder coating the frame, custom wheels had not been thought of. Had I liked the way the thing actually cooked? I might have done some more serious work but, I was disappointed in the performance, especially with the Vortex, all that did was make the handle untouchable. Nephew will not have such projects in mind so, it will be better for him and make a (tiny) bit more space for me.
His 18” kettle wasn’t quite big enough for some of his needs, happy to help! He’s a good lad!

Couple of them came up here for free in the last couple days. I send the listings to Brian a local Grill Master friend.

Josh, I just absolutely cannot believe the difference between your buy vs. sell opportunities! You regularly post free or almost free grills that would go for $150 and more most anywhere else. Then, thanks to your craftsmanship, there seems to be a ready, well-healed market to buy your restored grills at rewarding prices...Wow! Here in corn country 🌽 central Indiana, the realities are the exact opposite.

Wish I could grab that brick red Platinum One Touch!

I definitely feel fortunate for the opportunities that I have here and try to make the best of each opportunity.

I wish I could grab it for you!

As usual your work is exceptional and spectacular to say the least!

I grew up on a farm in a small town in the country which is probably why I have similar mentality to some of you. Where I live people are extremely wasteful. They will throw away a perfectly good Grill because it needs to be cleaned. Because of this any nice barbecue for sale that is dirty will not be picked up most times even for free. There's my opportunity. People around here don't want to get their hands dirty. Also most people are not handy when it comes to working on things. When it comes to selling grills here if it looks shiny and new it's an easy sell and probably the only one for sale that isn't used up and dirty. Make it a win win situation.
