B and B oak/hickory briquettes?

Has anyone used this blend yet as my Ace hardware only has this blend now.Can you really taste the difference between the regular oak and this blend as I am not a hickory fan.Thanks

Hi Louie,
I've tried them. The hickory flavor is there, but less pronounced than using hickory wood chunks. It was a bit strong for my taste but I rarely smoke with hickory. Others might know better.

Check wallyworld. You can get regular orange bag Oak B&B or Cowboy briqs which are just as good IMO and usually cheaper.

Checked Walmart did not have any individual bags but had the oak and hickory plus they had 4 bags of oak for 150.00 have no idea what that is all about.They had the oak and hickory for 9.97 per bag so I grabbed them for that price

Walmart has run on line specials on the Oak & Hickory the last few years for $9.97/17.6# bag and finally started stocking it, off & on, in our local store for the same price. Like @timothy says, they also have Cowboy briquettes 2 x 20# for $17.92, the same price they get for 2 x 16# of KBB. Used to be a Kingsford fan but have gone to Cowboy and B&B for the last few years. Both good fuels. I like the big B&B briqs for longer cooks, so usually keep a bag around. I don't find a noticeable difference in flavor between the 2.

I have used Walmart for charcoal the last couple of years. I order online and get it delivered in a day or two. The BnB and Cowboy is my go to and sometimes I throw some Jealous Devil in there as well if it is on sale. Minimum order of I think $35 gets you free delivery.

My Ace only has the Oak and Hickory and not the regular Oak only which is my goto for low and slow. And walmart shows the Oak as out of stock. I wonder if they are changing to these. B&B website shows the Oak and not the Oak & Hickory, so who knows.

Hi LouieD, if you mean the orange bag marked "competition blend", I just used them on my cook this past Tuesday for my modified 26" post. They have the ability to burn hot, but the smoke was also very clean and didn't heavily soot the inside of my kettle. The ash produced was very fine and the ribs had a significant smoke ring on them, though I did add two chunks of Cherry wood Harry Soo style in under the briquettes.
Like Bob, I've been a fan of the Cowboy briquettes for the last several years. Those are also blended from hardwood such as oak and hickory, but the flavor is more subtle on them. They have been my general go to for smoking.
