Ash Shovel for Smokey Mountain Cooker

Designed to aid in cleaning the ash from 18.5-inch and 22.5-inch Smokey Mountain Cooker™

The Weber Ash Shovel easily cleans accumulated ash without having to empty or disassemble the cooker beforehand. The stainless steel ergonomic handle is designed with the curve of the bowl in mind. H: 10.2” W 8.1” D 6.5”

$15.99

Not sure how this is to be used "without having to empty or disassemble the cooker beforehand".

Regards,
Chris

I use a half gallon plastic milk carton with the bottom cut into a scoop shape.
Works well, and will conform to the round bottom.
Had a pic, but can't find it.

not for the wsm but i have a scoop made out of a plastic whiskey bottle and it works fine on my kettles so see no reason it would
not work on the wsm. the weber scoop looks like it was designed to have some balance to reach down to scoop out the ash.
actually not a bad design or price.

i actually used a large aluminum dust pan, using tin snips to trim the sides, i bent the thing to scoop ashes out of my old 26" three wheeler.
since i no longer have that three wheeler, i'm not sure what became of the alum scoop.
it worked pretty good, tho'....

cleaning out the bottom of the smoker, i prefer to just dump the ashes into a galvanized trashcan.

I disassemble the WSM, turn the lower unit over, and dump the ashes into a dedicated metal ash can.

Did you see all those ashes in the amazon photo!?!? LOL I've never had that many ashed in the bottom of my WSM.

for the ultimate ash getter outter you just need to cut a big hole in the bottom of the bowl. insert a plug for smoking and then take out the plug to get rid of the ash.
as mine had a hole when i got it this seems to work great.

I dump the ashes out of my WSM into a garbage can then wipe it out with a 4" paint brush.

I do the same and then have a wide cheap paint brush to brush out the remaining ash from the vents like Bob mentioned also. Pretty easy BUT before that I used a plastic shovel I think one of my nieces left here from a beach trip. Worked great on cold ashes but eventually wore out from use on my other grills.

I wonder how much the stainless steel and shape would scratch the enamel off the ash catcher section after some use??
