Any other Type II diabetics out there using Ozempic?

I know this was from a while back. Just thought I would update what's been happening

Well about a month ago I finally had enough of being sick and tired. Mostly sick. With lots of GI issues.
So finally asked Doc if he could take me off the Ozempic. So he said sure. Just stop it and let's see where you wind up with only long acting insulin. Well it took about 2 weeks for that poison to finally get out of my system. But, it became a good news/bad news thing. Good (or bad depending how you look at it). 1st my appetite began returning. Not because I was more "hungry" but because I wasn't "sick" anymore. No weight gain right now but Ozempic face is pretty much gone or going away.
Bad news, blood glucose went up "sharply" especially in the AM reading. Talked to doc again. He said let's up the insulin 5 units and start Farxiga. So I am now into my 3rd week of that and glucose readings are FINALLY beginning to come down a bit to more "normal" ranges (except from last night). Due to a family issue with our dad, got tied up on phone with sister and brother conference call. Got pretty late and wife got us Culver's. Fast food and of course had a higher reading this AM.
But bottom line at least I am having some light at the end of the tunnel.
I forgot what it was like to feel "normal". So a word of caution. If anyone is considering using Ozempic, approach it with EXTREME caution.

“There is no normal, only Life” (Doc Holliday as played by Val Kilmer in Tombstone)
I was going to switch to Trulicity at the first of the year but, there isn’t any available(!?) until Feb 4, unbelievable! As for Ozempic face, I never felt like I had it but, I certainly was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired on the stuff. Three weeks since my last Ozempi. Wife says I’m more pleasant but, yes, my numbers are back up too. More self control has become my (unpleasant) motto.

I have been on Ozempic for almost a year, I had a few problems early on , constipation heart burn. I am up to .5 milligrams aweek now. My blood sugar is good my weight is down. My appetite is still Lower but not crazy like in the beginning.
I still take Metformin but a reduced amount. I have high blood presure, and high cholesterol from the diabetes, asthma. I actually am not feeling bad I have fair energy . As with any medications it is a crap shoot as we are all different.
One thing different with me is I do not drink alcohol at all,or smoke. Other than that pretty normal crazy white guy. (Can I say that).

Watch out for Meformin with your kidneys. Confirmed by both my Endocrinologist and Nephrologist it caused me to have Kidney failure. I've been lucky so far and it has not progressed beyond stage 3 but the damage was done. Both specialists said Metformin is quite dangerous to kidneys. I was on .5mg of the Ozempic for a bit with not too difficult of issues but it was useless for controlling anything. Doc said the .5 is only a "starter" dose and the most effective is 1mg up to 1.5mg but beyond .5 I could not tolerate it. Never did lose any weight. Which was weird because my appetite was so far off. But I was getting Ozempic face. Did not realize what it was called or why I turned even older looking than I already was. Then I read about it today in a news feed.
Anyway off it now and glad of it

It's my understanding that Kaiser Permanente Northern California is now recommending Victoza as their go-to injectable medication for controlling blood sugar. It's a different drug (Liraglutide) and used with a dose of Metformin, but with similar results as Ozempic and I assume lower cost.

I would encourage anyone to do their own research on Metformin and kidney health if that's a concern for you.

Yes, discussions with your health care provider is the only way to have a real idea about how you need to manage your health.
Where the internet is a great source for some information, anecdotal diagnoses is NOT one of them.
Thank you Chris for making that point!

Definitely. I was simply relating my experience and my own diagnosis with my dr. I am sure if Metformin caused everyone who takes it to go to kidney failure it would be long gone from the market. But as both specialists noted in my case it is a known side effect (in SOME not all people) but in ALL cases they both said kidney function should be monitored closely when using it.
Sadly in my case the dr that put me on it was not a specialist but my regular GP. She misread the precaution (openly admitted to me) thinking it said "did not" cause trouble.
I did not blame her. She admitted the mistake. And I get it. You have to look through so many precautions and weird things perhaps it just all goes to a blur occasionally.
But, know this. I am not a Dr though I do play one on TV :D
