Amazon aftermarket flavorizer bars - genesis 1000

I have a dozen or more used sets in my parts pile. Both Silver B and 1000. I have been simply buying new ones for my rehabs as buyers like NEW. But lately, I have been cleaning up the old ones as the prices have gone up quite a bit for the aftermarket ones. I need several cross over tubes however as those don't seem to last as long as the tubes themselves.
I would think at some point it would make financial sense for you to do that. Most of the tubes probably clean up well and crossover tubes are like $6.

Right, and as Brian stated, they are mostly hidden. They clean up pretty well with an angle grinder and wire brush too.

Brian, grates, flavo bars and burners all are important. In that order. Buyers just like the words "Stainless Steel" and "NEW". The more times I can list those words in my adds, the better for sales. If i find a set of SS solid rod grates, I will clean them up ever time however. They clean up just like new and save me about $60 over a new set for 20 or 30 minutes of work.
I keep forgeting that you can actually get good money for your rehabs in your area. Down here you would go broke doing new grates, bars you could probably get away with the burners but no money to made down here.

Sorry to hear that Brian. I am not sure why that is either. I know I could do even better if I was in or closer to a major metro area.

Bruce I am in a major metro area. Atlanta is unlike where I came from the Boston area where there is alot of old housing or whatever of course there is newer stuff now but I came here in 1996 that was the Olympics year and the Atlanta area started to explode and has not slowed down with many corporate companies relocating down here UPS just one example but many others.

Its all subdivision's mine has 750 homes with tennis courts, pools and whatever that did not exist in the Boston area guessing it does not exist much in the midwest either. There are probably 100 subdivisions like mine some with more houses some with less. Everything is kind off new and the people down here want if I had to guess want new stuff. Most of us who moved down here from all over the country left as much stuff behind as we could. Selling vintage stuff like a 1000 they could care less I did which is why I came to this forum. I could assure you if you were here to think you get 300-350 for a 1000 rehab that would not be reality not saying if you held out long enough you might find a buyer but just for fun started looking at WSM's 18" cannot tell you how many are for sale at under $150 bucks or less. Just a different world down here gasser owners everyone I know, huge Big Green Egg market know at least 12 people who own them some for many years they aint cheap anymore also, maybe 3 with WSM's none with pellet grills which kind of mystifies me cause I would love to have some food off a pellet grill to see what it is like.

WE have plenty of subdivisions in the Midwest near big towns. Minneapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee etc... Maybe not all newer, but they are here definitely. I am not sure why the ATL doesn't have a stronger market for rehabbed Webers though. It might be the type of residents. I find most of my buyers are 50 plus in age.

Have You had any success using the new crossover tubes with the original burner tubes? I just ordered the crossover tube from grilarts.com hoping to use it with my original burners. Not sure how this new one will connect with the center tube. My center tube has two rows of holes on the side with notch perpendicular to the tube for the crossover to go through

Hi Jeffrey, it sounds like you want to hold to a limited budget which is cool and can be done.

There is a trick to using the new crossburner tube with old burner tubes.

The tab in center of the crossburner tube will need to be modified since the old center tube is orientated 90 degrees to new center tubes

You need to trim the tab is such a manner that the tab will pass through the slot yet prevent the crossburner tube from rotating.

Maybe I’ll try that, I just got an angle grinder to clean the fire box. or maybe a dremel with cutting wheel would be easier.
Or I may just order a new set, and then have an extra crossbar on hand for the future. I am trying to save money here and there to spend on some nice grates, but I also need to save time and effort (I have a baby in the house and a 2 year old)

I had to do the same thing to make an oem crossover tube work with aftermarket burner tubes. I also got a set with a short crossover.

I keep the old salvageable burner tubes when I can. Add a new crossburner tube and the set is back in business. I buy a bunch of Weber? Crossburner tubes from grill parts. I use the Big Genesis side control 300 series ones. I found that they work on older Genesis side control silver/golds and Spirit 3 burners. They can also be cut for 2 burners with side controls

Good thinking, you can't make them longer but you can easily make them shorter.

I clean the 7506 tubes that I get on a bench grinder with a wire wheel. The bast majority clean up well and are pressed back into service.
