After Way Too Many Digital Thermometers............

Found one that really works and it is a cheapo non digital just the basic OXO instant read meat thermometer.
My wife bought it in a clothes store discount section. $6.57. I used it today while smoking a pork shoulder on the
WSM 14.5". No, it's not digital, and the readout takes just a few seconds, but I have this feeling that it will hang
in there and work for a long time. Hope so. No more wasted bucks on anything digital that goes into the meats that
I am cooking. Simple, I like that.

I am one step away from you: in the WSM(s) I've pretty much quit using anything but the stock Pit thermometer for approx temp, a clock for approx time, and a wooden skewer for tenderness.

Interesting, I've had my Maverick for almost two years and use it a lot and it's still on the original batteries and probes, no problems. Same with my two thermopops almost as old as the Maverick and they both work fine.

Same here. I must have 100 hours on my Maverick since I bought it this spring, still on the batteries that shipped with it.

The only issue I've run into is that the temps don't sync on the receiver at power up until I hit the sync button on the sender.

Bob, that was my first thermometer. After Pammi Sue absconded with it, I bought a $12 digital one off Amazon. The OXO is in the kitchen and the digital is in my cooking tool box.

I have two of these:

And one of these: (price is high right now, shop around)

Those little Taylors are pretty good - I only bought the second because I expected the first to fail. I guess maybe one did fail, or I got it for someone...I have two and bought three (3/2008, 4/2012, 8/2014).

I found if I start the receiver first and let it sit for about 15 seconds then start the transmitter it always syncs right away.

Get a thermapen, you'll stop having problems with your digital therms. And if it ever breaks their warranty CS is excellent.

Edit: make sure you get a red one as they are faster.

Say whuuutttt?

I have to put new batteries in my Mav 733 almost every cook. I thought it was normal, but odd. Maybe I should contact them.

Is it just one unit or both if it's one unit it must be not completely shutting down or have some other patristic drain on it.
