Well, I still think that Bryan S. is going to surpass Doug D. by the end of this year

I did chicken quarters(4) on the Silver B. AWESOME. I give them a little soak in the olive oil, shake on some season salt and Morton's Nature seasoning(must have) and heat the grill to melt steel hot. Then plop those chickies down skin side up and sear um good and plenty. Reduce heat to medium and cook 16-18 min on that side. Flip over to skin side, reduce heat to low and let the skin crisp up nice and good(12min). Flip back over to no skin side for another 6min and back to skin for 5min then do a quick temp check(180) and take off grill. Oh, BTW every time I flip I shake on more Mortons Natures Seasonings!

So good, and that skin is like tater chips(but tastes like chicken)!!

Also added about 8 BUDS for start of cook till now! Feeling good and still poping BUDS for all of us!

Where would you get the crazy idea I use mesquite? I hate that stuff!!

Bill, I do that cook so often I don't even think of taking pics...next time my good man.

Chris never commented on my use of custom emoticons so I guess it's ok. I wanted a couple of extras to express other emotions not covered by our existing smileys (like the worship one, which I'm saving for something special).

If I was admin of this site I might be concerened if the use became widespread. A couple of years from now old postings could be riddled with red Xs. For instance, I'm planning on switching ISPs in a month or two. Since I use ISP provided web server space, everywhere I have used one will probably show a red X when my account is closed. I will have to move them and update those links in my TVWB posts.

I guess the other issue is linking to posted images on other users accounts. I think it's bad form to use someone else's without their permission. Worst case they could end up paying service fees from excessive bandwidth usage.

Lastly, if used as communication tool I find there are lots out there that can easily be interpretted in many ways, some not so pleasant. The one Bill posted above in my mind is laughing hysterically with a fountain of tears, but someone else described it as crying.

I think using custom smileys with some restraint, selection of easily understood smileys and linking to others smileys only with permission will keep these problems in check.

WELL! I'm guilty there, Shawn (sorry). While I don't host my website, I can easily move it to another host if needed, and I don't plan on removing any of my icons, gif's or pics in the near future. So, everything I post will be here a while (except for the worship gif you hosted and I linked to ~ sorry again) as long as it's alright with Chris. (I'm thinking we're going to hear from him now...) Heck, many of the links found in the archives are dead ends ~ Some because of dead end links, but many are because of the recent change that TVWB went through. Those kind of things are going to happen from time to time. And, the gif I posted could easily be mistaken for crying, if taken out of context...

Take care, all...End of my 2 cents,

Bill, my man, no worries, really. I didn't even notice (but now that you mention it GRRRRR ... just kidding

) and I certainly wasn't pointing fingers or crapping on anyone.

I just thought since 'the secret' was out that it might be a good idea to suggest reasonable and considerate usage guidelines for the uninitiated.

Edit Aug 24, 2004 2323hrs MST: this portion of the thread was in response to a post about 'how to use custom inline smileys' that appears to have been deleted from the thread .... SW

Perhaps this thread could serve as some sort of an example. It's now 4 pages long, and has been off-topic since the middle of page two. (No smiley.)

I wasn't aware that you had been appointed as a moderator on this forum...No Smiley here either.

Sometimes it's nice to have a coversation that strays...99% of the time we are on topic and do provide quality assistance to those who ask for it. The original post is old anyway so it is not that topical.

Ease up Doug, we all have fathers here! It's all in good F-U N!!

I've not appointed Doug as moderator, but I appreciate the sentiment of his message.

I don't mind some off-topic discussion, it's fun and I do it myself. But my bigger concern is that six months from now when someone wants info on the Foodsaver and sees a 4-page topic and thinks it's gonna be chock-full of good info, they're gonna find it's filled with off-topic stuff.

My other concern is that under this new bulletin board scheme we moved to in June, I now pay for this service based on the number of messages stored, amount of disc space used, and the amount of download bandwith consumed. And this site has experienced significant growth since moving to the new service, which is pushing up all these numbers.

So I would just ask that people respect the resource that's provided here for free, and have fun but post wisely, if that makes sense.

Thanks,
Chris
