A couple of new Charcoal Go Anywhere features

The Weber Go-Anywhere Charcoal Grill now comes with a 2-piece cooking grate, a Char-rail insert for indirect grilling, and a couple of disposable foil pans. (https://www.weber.com/US/en/charcoal/portable-charcoal/go-anywhere-charcoal-grill/1500763.html)

Small changes, but it's an acknowledgement by Weber that people like to capitalize on the CGA's portability by packing it with gear (enabled by the 2-piece cooking grate) and use the CGA for indirect grilling and barbecue (enabled by the Char-rail).

This was one of my projects that I've been working on for the last year or so, and it recently launched.

I'm glad to hear you appreciate the updated features!

The only thing I would suggest are the sliding lower vent covers instead of the current adjustable stamped metal ones. Those vents are my least favorite thing about the awesome GA Charcoal grill.

I bought those at a pretty high price comparable to the grill itself and had to wait for a bit to get them internationally shipped. lol. Not sure the margins work with those as an upgrade, but if you are looking to make a premium version with wood handles and the slider vents, I'm going to bet it'll be a popular grill. But, I'm just a dude that loves cool grills so I have no idea if it's a feasible cost option for Weber.

FYI, I bought the grill, then spent even more than what I spent for the grill for custom wood handles and those slider vents. But, my proclivities may not be typical for most Weber consumers. lol

These mods were just about mandatory when first buying a WGA...it just extends the versatility of the product immensely. I am so glad that you and Weber took note of the things that the WGA community was doing and legitimized them this way!

I only wish that the cooking grate was stainless steel instead of plated.

Now, if we could just get Weber to offer a griddle:

...and it all fits inside a compact, easy to carry little package that you can carry with one hand. Sweet!

Thanks for your innovation, @John Burns and Weber!

Those are some pretty slick vent covers! An upgrade like that, as well as wood handles would add cost, but I do like the sound of a premium model.

+1 for the Air Slides from Australia! Such a cool upgrade. I installed those on my dad's old wood-handled Go Anywhere, and it is like we bought a whole new unit.

I'm also tempted by this basket, but it'd probably make getting the chimney and other items in there a tight fit:

Could you not change the slots on the air vent aluminum angle from vertical, where it slides up and down, to horizontal, where it slides side to side? Of course, the holes would need to be drilled to mate the openings in the WGA. I may try this...I think I have some extruded aluminum angle in the garage.

I used disposable aluminum mesh grill toppers to create the charcoal partitions. I like that they fold flat for storage. I bought a pack of 3, 16"x12", for $8 in 2022, but they no longer sell them in that small quantity. If you bank the charcoal against the side of the WGA as some of Weber's photos shows, it can soften and potentially melt the plastic handle. I bent the side of a partition to keep the briqs away from the side, especially when using the griddle.

EDIT: Found the pics with the griddle, GrillGrates, charcoal partitions, lighters, all stowed under the charcoal grate.

here is a pack of 10 for $13. Cheaper per piece than the 3 pack. I even use them on my Char-Griller Patio for an inexpensive charcoal basket.

Yes please. I would be all over that for sure.... Add to the collection. Still not telling the wife! I bought my 14" WSM without her knowledge. She still gets to enjoy the great food.

That basket is really nice

Hey John, will those parts be available as an aftermarket kit? If not kit then, individually?
I'm sure John will have more information, but it looks like out of the three additional parts, the 2-piece cooking grate and aluminum drip pans (à la Weber Q) are available for purchase from Weber's site (https://www.weber.com/US/en/help/schematics/browse/1500763).

The only part not available for purchase online, yet, is the Char-rail (#2401337), but you can probably call Weber customer service to order that part.

Hi Jepprey!

You're absolutely correct about the 3 new parts.

You can get the 2-piece cooking grate set right from Weber.com here: 3400656

And, the drip pans right here: 6415

The Char-rail won't be on Weber.com anytime soon, so you'll need to call in to order that one at 1-800-446-1071. As noted in the schematic, it's part # 2401337, and it costs $6.25 USD.
