Chad-Burnt to a T
TVWBB Super Fan
Pretty easy mod that helps in many different ways. What you need is
OEM WSM Charcoal Ring Part # 63008

OEM WSM Charcoal Grate Part # 63014

Weber 17" Charcoal Grate Part # 7441

Stainless Steel Ties Gardner Bender 11" smaller and different brand would work but that's what I found local.

What this does is make a cross hatch pattern that helps your Charcoal burn down better before it falls through the grate and also you can shake down the ash and also lift it out as one solid unit. Some people will add handles or bolts to make it easier to lift out but I found that unnecessary for myself.
Cross hatch patterns

Center the OEM WSM Charcoal Ring on top of the OEM WSM Charcoal Grate then add the Weber Charcoal Grate rotate it however you like.

Then loosely attach 4 of the Stainless Ties just until snug. I found to tighten them fully it was easier to flip it upside down (the OEM WSM grate will be on top) to keep it straight and true. All you need is a pair of snips and needle nose pliers. Cut the ties so you have enough to grab the ties and turn with the pliers until it draws it tight. I worked a bit opposite side to side to keep it straight. Do that 4 all 4 ties and that's all there is to it. Easy mod but worth it. One more thing most people don't have the tool for Steel ties if you do or want to buy they are available.
