Yeah, look at the alternate schematic that I posted above. There are two little tabs of what I presume to be steel that hold the lid off the corners of the table. They would certainly be easier to fabricate than the full bail.

If you don’t mind a little fussing, the hinge from “Unknown BBQ” is a fine design, not too difficult to install, and reasonably priced. I’ve had mine on my 18” for three years now and it’s very convenient! Jason is easy to work with too!

As I recall all parts were ready to go, I think I had to add a couple of washers to “fine tune” the fit but, it’s four holes, not a major project at all.
