I know Weber made kettle style gas grills in the ‘50s. Does anyone own one or do you see them up for sale ever??
Chris, I love those old catalogs. I'm watching for the missing years so I can contribute. We have a large collection of old Weber catalogs and brochures in this subforum:

They do come up for sale...I don't own one and I don't know if they work or how well they work.
First Weber Genesis came out in 1985.
Seems like you can't join without the secret password. Anybody have any information on that? The Weber Kettle Club (http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/index.php) has a lot of information on the various kettle styles includin the gas grill. But from what I am hearing, the gas kettle had inferior grilling performance.
a minute on Google says the secret passphrase is ""weberkettleclub". I'm not sure but it is worth the try.Seems like you can't join without the secret password. Anybody have any information on that?
Well, I kind of feel stupid now. Didn't even think to Google it.a minute on Google says the secret passphrase is ""weberkettleclub". I'm not sure but it is worth the try.
Why is it you think it’s easier to find in the Midwest?Heather,
I saw one in Michigan last winter. They pop up occasionally, probably mostly in the Midwest. It is hard to find one in decent working condition. Those who have actually used them back in the day say they were NOT good cookers, so the reason to have one is mostly historical novelty - which wouldn't stop me from buying one! It was a big deal when Weber opted to pursue a more conventional gas grill - and then engineered the masterpiece that became the Genesis we all love.

THIS YEAR MARKS 30 YEARS SINCE WEBER LAUNCHED GENESIS – the gas grill which revolutionized barbecuing like the kettle grill did 33 years earlier.www.weber.com
That just kills me!I saw one for sale in Kansas City a week ago for only $30. It sold real fast.
Weber was founded in Illinois and has always been a Midwest favorite. Lots of old Weber grills are found in that region. Why is it you think it’s easier to find in the Midwest?
