    1000 Degree Thermometer

Yes, it's for making pizza. I have an industrial IR temp gun, but it doesn't go to 1000 degrees, unfortunately. I thought about getting one of the newer ones, myself. Mine was under $200 at the time I bought it years ago and I've noticed those cheap ones you mentioned. Some of them look very...

    1000 Degree Thermometer

Anyone know of a digital thermometer, suitable for a grill, that will monitor/measure up to 1000 degrees? The Maverick and Thermoworks that I have won't measure that high. Thanks, Steve

Is Trend a Good Thermometer for the Top of the WSM?

I had a Taylor thermometer that I used for a few years on my WSM. It had a clip on the rod and I just kind of clipped it inside one of the top vent holes. It stopped working and I want to replace it. I think I've read that Trend makes good thermometers - do I have that right? The Taylor I had...

Anyone Used "Wildfire" Hardwood Charcoal Briquettes?

I have a bunch of it - yellow 5lb. bags. The briquettes have lots of little pieces of unburned wood, supposedly to give a "smokier" fire, I guess. The stuff seems to burn fast and leaves a lot of ashes. Anyone else have experience with it? Thanks.

Anyone Used or Heard of Brinkman's 100% Hardwood Charcoal Briquettes?

I bought a number of bags of this stuff about 10 years ago. I've been using a different charcoal, but tried a bag of the Brinkman's the other day. It was a bit hard to start and had a funny smell. Was this hard to start because of the age of the bags? Do the briquettes absorb moisture over...

Using a Charcoal Grill on Wooden Deck

Do any of you guys use a charcoal grill (or WSM) on a wooden deck? I've used my WSM out there, but have a pan under it filled with water. (The pan is a hot water heater pan, with the hole plugged.) I just got a new 26.75 Kettle and want to use it on the deck, but not if it's considered unsafe...

LDean, Great. That's what I hoped. Thanks.

    Cajun Bandit (Weber Grill Mod)

LDean, Thanks for the info. Re: The paint. I don't mean lead paint and toxicity when you eat the paint or absorb it in your skin. I mean, does it release any toxins in the cooker when you cook. You can only use certain types of paint on the inside surfaces of a grill, smoker, etc., because of...

Is the Ranch Kettle as Easy to Smoke With as the WSM?

Is it as easy to do long smokes on the Ranch Kettle as it is on the WSM? Any drawbacks to using the Ranch for smoking vs. a WSM? Thanks!

    Cajun Bandit (Weber Grill Mod)

Chris - Is the paint used on the Cajun Bandit non-toxic paint? (Is it clearly indicated in the MSDS?) Also, I'm interested in how this would work on a 22.5" Performer? Would it be too tall? Can it cook for 8-12 hours without ashes stopping it up at the bottom of the one-touch vents? Can some...

How Easy is it to Smoke on the Ranch Kettle?

Thanks for the info. It's not as much a matter as how much meat I need to smoke, as how much I need to be able to grill. I need more space than a 22" when we have an extended-family cookout and the Ranch would be great for that. I need more smoker room than the 18" WSM I have now and thought...

    Dissappointed in New 26" Kettle

I might go ahead and get the 26" model and live with the wobble. Are there some tricks to making the legs sturdier? Steel pipe, additional braces? Looks like steel pipe would rust, though. Thanks.

    Dissappointed in New 26" Kettle

I saw a 26" Kettle in a store today. I've always wanted a Ranch Kettle, but could never bring myself to spend $1,000 on it. I thought the 26" would be an acceptable compromise until I saw it. I liked the size of it, except that the legs were very spindly and shaky. I could tell it was...

How Easy is it to Smoke on the Ranch Kettle?

I have an 18" WSM and was thinking about getting the new 22" WSM. I also wanted the new 26" Kettle, but after seeing on in a store, thought the legs were spindly and shaky. That got me to thinking... How easy is it to do long indirect cooks on the big Ranch Kettle? Can you do 6-8 hour smoking...

Any Chance for a 22.5" WSM Cooker From Weber?

Does anyone know if there's any chance Weber would come out with a 22.5" WSM cooker? I would be elated, if they did. I would order one immediately. Thanks.
