Simple DIY adjustable charcoal divider for indirect cooking

I made this out of some spare expanded metal. Cut a piece to match the charcoal grate, but 2 inches longer. Then measure about 2 inches and bend one end up for the divider. It might not be exactly 2", but you'll want to not bend too much to hit the upper grate. Then cut the remaining flat...

Anyone have Measurents of Kettle Height, not including legs of 18" Kettle vs 18" Jumbo Joe - thinking of making my own version of portable 18"

Very nice I used to have a modified one too some time ago, but I wasn't using it so I let it go to a good home. Now, the need for a portable came up again, so I was looking at making another one or getting a Jumbo Joe. I ended up getting a nice JJ for $40 the other day. I did really like my...

Anyone have Measurents of Kettle Height, not including legs of 18" Kettle vs 18" Jumbo Joe - thinking of making my own version of portable 18"

Thank you! This is perfect. The JJ is clearly much shallower than the regular kettle. I'm getting the JJ. Thank you so much!

Anyone have Measurents of Kettle Height, not including legs of 18" Kettle vs 18" Jumbo Joe - thinking of making my own version of portable 18"

Thanks for your non solicited opinion, but I already have a 22" performer, which is not portable, nor is a standard 22" kettle for my purposes. What I am wanting to do is to make a Jumbo Joe that has the enclosed ash catcher, and the only way to do that is really not much work at all as all it...

Anyone have Measurents of Kettle Height, not including legs of 18" Kettle vs 18" Jumbo Joe - thinking of making my own version of portable 18"

I'm considering getting a 18" original kettle, adding an ash catcher and cutting the legs to make it more portable. I know ther Jumbo Joe is out ther also, but it's too much trouble to add a modify a 1-touch and add an ash catcher. So, I'm wondering if anyone has just the height (or...

Smokey Joe Premium with bottom vents?

I though all the smokey joe premium models had the side vents and then I saw one of these online - it's got a bottom vent. Anyone ever seen one of these before? From what I've read, the bottom vent is more desirable than the side vents, right?

Comparing Restoring a Broilmaster to a Weber

Marty, looking forward to your photos! I fired mine up yesterday for to heat up a 10" cast iron pan to sear a couple chicken breasts I cooked in my sous vide. This thing gets HOT and fast. It got the cast iron pan well over 500 degrees (I measured with infrared thermometer) and I only had it...

Comparing Restoring a Broilmaster to a Weber

I received the rest of my parts today and my rehab of my Broilmaster is complete. In summary, I got a Broilmaster model D3CP (Model year 1998) for free a couple weeks ago. I believe the D3 model differs from the P3 as the D3 uses painted black metal for the control panel and base/cart. As far...

Comparing Restoring a Broilmaster to a Weber

I received the Hongso grates and they fit perfectly. The do seem slightly thinner than the original grates, but I think that is because they don't have the porcelain coating on it. I spent some time yesterday working on seasoning the grates - heat up, lightly oil, heat up, then cool down...

Comparing Restoring a Broilmaster to a Weber

I should add that I've got a new label ordered and hoping it will arrive and that it is not out of stock. I had to order a label with no ignition hole as the label for the models with rotary ignition are no longer available. I'll just make my own hole in the label. I thought about converting...

Comparing Restoring a Broilmaster to a Weber

I know this is an old thread, but I had no place else to go. I've scoured the internet and this is the best thread out there about restoring a Broilmaster. Here's my story. I read about the Broilmasters being a high quality grill and did my research, which led me here. I've had numerous...

Does a Tamale pot fit the TOP section the 14.5" WSM to make a rib hanger?

I know you can use a tamale pot to make a mini WSM. With that in mind, a friend asked me if I knew of an easy way to make a rib hanger setup for his 14.5" WSM. (I have an 18" WSM with a Gateway Rib Hanger and he's trying to get some hanging action on his 14"). I'm wondering if anyone has...

304 Stainless Steel Top Cooking Grate for 18.5" Weber Smokers

How much did this cost and how does this improve the results of the cook? With the WSM being a smoker as opposed to a grill, the grates are not subjected to high heat and unless the original grates are completely neglected, I just don't see how they will not hold up for a sufficient period of...

WSM 14.5, want to try a brisket

I've had a 14.5" WSM and while it is possible to cook a brisket on this, it's a little bit like jamming your size 10 foot into a size 8 shoe. There are ways to make it work, but you don't really have a lot of good options. The size limitations of the 14.5" is the main reason I no longer I have...

Anyone have any pics of DIY Hanging Rack for 18" or 22"

Thank you everyone for the replies. After much research and considering making my own - cutting/modifying a grate, using a chicken wing/drumstick hanger, fabricating (I don't weld), and being unable to find the Weber 7472 hanger, I went ahead and ordered the Gateway 30 gal hanger. Kinda pricey...
