TV News Today Big Weber Layoffs

Will the legacy grills become the equivalent of the 1950s American cars in Cuba?

Weber says no, I tell ya it works-22.5 Kettle Modification

I've considered doing this to the 22 I bought to use as a dedicated pizza oven. I haven't found a cheap enough donor to buy just for the ash bucket. Now I'll have to check the leg sockets for slots to see if it's possible. But if not, it will give me a chance to play with my metallic surgery kit...

La Caja China Repair Ideas ?

I would put a stainless steel fender washer on each side of the hole, fastened with a stainless steel bolt and nut. Cut the bolt so it's just long enough to extend about 1/8 inch beyond the face of the nut, then after assembling, peen the end of the bolt so it can't come unscrewed. You could...

It's never too hot to cook outside

But when it's this hot I cook simple things. Bbq chicken legs, cantaloupe, corn, and beer. Not creative, but satisfying.

    Meat storage/freezing?

That's the model I just bought for the chest freezer I just bought. After 45+/- years our 19 cubic foot upright was finally retired two years ago when we downsized and moved into a house with no space for it. The garage wouldn't accommodate the swinging door of an upright. I would have had to...

What you cooking for the Fourth of July Weekend?

I just picked up a rack of baby back ribs and some corn on the cob, so that will be my Independence Day menu, probably with Cole slaw and baked beans on the side. I picked up a couple of locally made hot sauces at the beach last week. The Surfer Slappin' sauce was good on grilled chicken so I'm...

    Ever seen a meteor?

    They had a Comet, too.

    Ever seen a meteor?

Lots of them. We viewed the Perseids shower while on vacation. I've also seen a few individual ones; one of the better ones was while I was driving at night, at a time when many alleged UFO sightings were being reported. There for a second, I wondered...

No display on digital timer for my Performer

I have had problems with displays (not Performer timers, so YMMV) due to poor connections or cold solder joints where the display connected to the circuit board. If you can access the board, try reflowing the soldered connections. If it doesn't fix the problem you're no worse off than you are now.

Steak crust without “Sharpie” grill lines

I always cook steaks outside on the grill. The grill has a stainless steel grate, so I get the traditional grill marks. I'm happy. 🙂

Cleaning and care of cooking grates and water pan

I use a scraper and wire brush to clean the grate outside, but there are usually some burned on bits that require cleaning in the sink (yes, that can be messy) and/or the dishwasher. I'm still cooking on the original grates (20+ years) so it hasn't hurt them very much. I always foil the water...

    Help with iced tea debate

I can drink it either way. What I do not do is order unsweetened iced tea and add sugar to it. If it's unsweetened I drink it that way.

    Whoomp! There it is!

Better way to put out coals.

Kettle or WSM, I just close all the vents, make sure the lid is on correctly, and leave it until the next morning. I don't know how long it takes to cool down, but the majority (apparently the vast majority) of the unburned charcoal is still there. I put it into a metal bucket with a...

What’s your biggest or most memorable barbecuing oops?

I once left a gas grill on high all night. The next day I looked out on the deck and saw, above the grill, that shimmering effect you see above the highway on hot summer days. The grill was mounted on the deck about two feet away from the wood railing, and I had wondered if that was enough...

What’s your biggest or most memorable barbecuing oops?

#1. I was doing an overnight cook of a butt outside on our patio, controlled/monitored by my Stoker. The "fire" alarm on the Stoker woke me and I went outside to find that the door of the WSM had fallen off, and the charcoal was blazing away with all the extra air. The mini-bonfire burned up...
