What makes the Weber Q grills good?

The baby Weber Q's will surprise you at how well they cook. They are perfect for small direct heat items like burgers and steaks. Thanks to the grate, it also does a very good job with fish and veggies. I know that some people do some pretty innovative things to use them for indirect also if...

NEW To the Forum Question on grill Grates for MiniWSM project

Welcome to the wonderful world of the mini WSM. What you are going through right now is half the fun because unless you are shelling out big bucks for a custom made stick-burner or something, this is as close as most of us will get to designing our own equipment. It is worth taking the time to...

    Fajitas!

That really looks good. I think you gave me an idea of what to grill this weekend.

    Professional Grade...

Chris, thanks so much for running a great forum. I am a member of several other BBQ/grilling forums and I think from the overall standpoint of info that is made available, the TVWBB and the Virtual Bullet website can’t be beat because of the wealth of information it provides on Weber products...

    Cleaning My Summit S-670

I am probably not the best person to address this topic since my maintenance plan is probably not what it should be. I try my best to do a periodic thorough cleaning. I would like to say I do this once a year, but it more like once every year or so. I do not do a thorough deep cleaning like...

    WSM 18 1/2 " Lower grate

Yep. I am not very selective about using it. To me it is just another rack. I use it for when I do large amount that won't all fit on the top like when I do four pork butts. Two on the top and two on the bottom. I normally cook on the top grate only more for the sake of convenience.

    Pizza, no stone ideas?

As Dave from Devner said, roll out your crusts, put on parchment paper, then you can just pitch it straight on the grate and do one side. After a minute or two, remove from heat, top, and then put it back on to finish. Only a couple of cautions. First, you need to make the crusts very thin...

Gimme' some ideas for a 'new" pork butt technique please

I will qualify my comments by saying that I am just a backyard BBQ fan and not a competition cook. I have chased my tail reading and trying all the latest and greatest recipes and techniques, but I keep going back to the basics and a minimalist approach. I follow the “The Renowned Mr. Brown”...

    New 22.5" Bar-B-Kettle 3-wheeler vs One-Touch?

Bar-B-Kettle is the like the old style we had here in the states before the One Touch. I also used one of these for a number of years when we lived in Germany. From a direct heat / indirect heat grilling perspective, there is essentially no difference between the old three vent system and the...

    Substitutes for Salt for Grilling

Watched an old episode of America’s Test Kitchen and Chris Kimball discussed salt substitutes. He said there are basically two types. One has no sodium (totally salt free) and the other is a mixture which includes some sodium. A brand name of one with no sodium is Nu-Salt®. An example of a...

    Summit 670 Question

You have a better memory than I do because I don't recall installing any batteries on the gas measuring system at all. I'm interested in what you find out on this. Almost positive there are no batteries in the igniters. Pretty sure they are piezo.

    Weber Gas Grill Accessories

Cover is an absolute must have. I use a grill pan a lot for veggies and small items. I also have the basket type, but don't use it nearly as often. If I had to pick just one, it would be the pan. Need to check on bottles. I am assuming none are included. You really need to have two so you...

    Smoking 4 Butts on 18"

Four is absolutely not a problem as far as space goes. As several people have indicated, the biggest challenge is managing your fuel. I have had cooks like that run in excess of 16 hours. You can cut that time if you use foil, but personally I don't. Make sure you are prepared to add more...

A big "THANK YOU!" to Famous Dave

Thanks Dave for hanging out with us. Was a pleasure getting to exchange ideas with you. Also, thanks to Chris to making this all happen.

Charcoal chefs, do you also use Gas?

I do most of the cooking at our house due to our work schedules. Plus, I really enjoy doing it and do most of it outdoors. In addition to living here in the mild weather of Georgia, my grilling area is a covered slab where the previous owner used to park his RV. So I not only grill year...

    q mods

Did you add the regular Q grill thermometer to it? I used a Q grill thermometer when I added one to a 18.5 OTG kettle and am really happy with it. Have considered adding one to my Q100 but haven't gotten around to it yet. I understand that drilling through the cast lid is pretty easy. Any...

Vegetables and desserts on the grill

Both vegetables and desserts on the grill seem to be areas that a lot of us are starting to venture into heavily. What about you in your personal cooking? Are you jumping on this bandwagon or so you still enjoy making the traditional favorites?

Difference between these two performers, one better?

In the perfect world you could have the stainless steel table with the newer Tough N Go igniter. Unfortunately, the world isn't perfect. Pick your poison so to speak. Nice table and chase down refilling the old bottles or plastic table and find propane bottles anywhere.

Why does everybody seem to have 3 or 4 or 5 different grills and smokers?

Hey CarrieAnn sounds like you are raising a couple of young Lee Ann Whippen's.
