    Pork and Cabbage

I am really beginning to love this place. I haven't even got my 1st smoker yet (waiting for Santa) and I am so psyched to get going. What great ideas and recipes. That meal looks awesome. I've seen so many good looking meals I can't decide what my very 1st smoke should be. I want to do all the...

    Learning to barbecue

Opps, hope what I said about the techno stuff wasn't misconstrued I don't have experience enough to make a or have a valid opinion. I was just saying I'm more of a hands on guy especially when I have loads to learn. It doesn't mean that at some point in my smoking hobby I won't want to indulge...

    Learning to barbecue

Some very interesting observations here, as a newbie and I guess just generally fits in with my type of personality, I'm approaching this from the hobby perspective I guess. I may end up with all the automated stuff but for now the only luxury will be the Maverick thermometer I think. I'm sort...

    They're here!

Really 30F and 40mph winds and you were able too cook and hold temp? That's very encouraging, I'm getting a 22" for x-mass and did'nt think I'd be able to use it until spring time. It would be nice to get some experience under my belt before warmer weather gets here.

    Choose a smoker now what?

Great info from all thanks so much. Very excited to get this going unfortunately I have to wait until camping season starts. Up in this neck of the woods it is beginning to mid April. I'm drooling to try some of the recipes I've been researching here and other places. By the time April comes...

I have a question on the Maverick wireless thermometer. The transmitter with the probes, can the whole unit go in the smoker or just the probles?

    Choose a smoker now what?

So I just made up my mind on what smoker to purchase (22") errr I mean to ask Santa for what else should I be thinking about getting for equipment or periferals? I've notice people getting the charcoal starter chimney, the Maverick wireless temp monitor, are these worth getting and or necessary...

    18.5 or 22.5 for a newbie

I've decided to go with the larger 22" version. I don't have any space contrainsts and the extra cost is not an issue. Plus I love cooking and since I will be doing this on weekends at my campground I'm sort of hoping it attracts attention and big crowds gather, the more the merrier. I can think...

    18.5 or 22.5 for a newbie

Thank you all for you input it was very informative. I haven't made up my mind yet but leaning towards the 22.5. I'll just have too wait to see what Santa brings me. One more question if I may. Many have mentioned using a 18.5 in charcoal ring I assuming the smaller ring for smaller amounts ie...

    18.5 or 22.5 for a newbie

I actually have to keep that in mind. My wife and I have a seasonal sight on a campground and I'll be doing this up there on weekends. I imagine as the smoke wallows thru the campground all day I'm going to have lots of friends. That's was my thinking also on being able to just lay the ribs on...

    KCBS banned tenderloin

This sounds great, as a newbie to all this, approximately how long for the pork to get to 155 degrees so I'm not opening the smoker too frequently?

    18.5 or 22.5 for a newbie

Newbie here decided to dip my feet into the smoking arena. I've read a lot of reviews and decided to go with the Weber, now I'm trying to decide which size. A majority of my cooking will be for 2 - 4 people with the occasion of 6 or 8 once a month. I love baby back and St Louis style ribs so...
