Used WSM with block of ash in water bowl

Just picked up a used WSM and the seller had the water bowl filled with ash that was a solid block. What is the best way to remove it? I've tried blasting with a garden hose which helped a little and am soaking it now. It's pretty much full of ash.

    Oil Container/Dispenser

Does anyone have a recommendation for an oil dispenser? I buy those gallon jugs from Costco and want to find a container that I could put a couple of cups of oil into and have it easy to dispense for a pan.

New Q - Grates Already Rusting???

I just throw my Q grates on the Platinum D6 when I'm preheating the D6. A light brushing removes all the gunk off the Q grate. A light spray of Pam and its back to the Q. PS: I cover my grill with HD foil when preheating to increase the temps.

Summit S-460 or Summit Platinum D4?

I have the D6 model and get 700 degrees after 10 minutes. No problem searing then.

Best way to add smoke to a weber q

Mac, Put the foil pack on top of the grill. Elevate your meat with a rack over the foil for roasts, tri tip, etc. For direct grilling I would let that packet get very hot first to ensure good smoke then grill your meat. Of course, not much smoke will penetrate due to short cooking time.

    wood flooring

Is it safe to use old wood floors for smoking? I have a 40 year old red oak floor that I'm replacing. I was wondering if I might use it for smoking? What about grilling (Santa Maria style?)

    A different "knives" question...

Rita, Remind me to call ahead before stopping by! Actually, I agree with you on the Chinese cleaver. It is my "go to" knife. The only drawback is the lack of roll due to the straighter edge. You have to lift the cleaver a little more than a chef's knife when finely chopping items like garlic...

    Baby Q vs. Go-Anywhere

Out of curiosity, has anyone here made a ring for the Coleman bottle? I was wondering how to go about making one myself. I can get the 14.1 bottles for $2.38 each at the Expo here but I'm at Costco much more often than the Expo so its a matter of convenience.

Setup of a Weber Summit S-650 on flickr.

Dave, Great photos. Thanks for sharing. I really like how the side burner is flush mounted vs. my D6. Also, that baby looked 95% assembled while the D6 came in many more pieces.
