    My new Smokey Joe Platinum

Thanks for the info, I did notice that the standard 18.5 replacement grates dont fit right which jives with what you were saying. I will try it out to see if it can work for my camp grill. If not, I have the SJS to fall back on.

    My new Smokey Joe Platinum

So is the temp workable in this original vent setup? I just got a free SJP from a friend and was wondering about the ventilation and temp control.

AJ, that is spot on, exactly what I got. I see now that whoever put the legs on this one did it backwards so that the SJP was alot taller with a narrow footprint. I will switch them back asap for better stability. Thanks for the help on the ID! You guys rock.

Now that I look at the 1973 product catalog, mine does not have the bottom spin vents. The vents in this mystery grill are midway up the sides, between the coal grate and the cooking grate. And of course, the round legs are replaced by flat metal loops. Thanks again.

Hi all, I just was given a weber kettle that I would like to have identified by you knowledgable kettleheads, but cant figure out how to upload a picture. It is a 18.5 style grill with a solid bottom bowl. The inlet vents are a pair of one-inch holes on opposite sides from each other (4 holes...

Another way to lite a chimney on a OTG.

Yes sir...been using that method in my OTS and egg for a while too. No problem getting a minion start that way either. Very nice.

How to light a Weber Kettle with a Hose Torch

I also use a plumbers torch to start coals. Aside from applying flame to the top, it works real well sticking the pipe up thru the bottom vents to start the underside in three places, then let natural convection do the rest.

new owner of sjs and new to grilling yay

22" - Maintaining lower temps difficult in summer heat?

The space shuttle analogy is priceless! After reading some of the posts about air leaks, I wondered if one were to install some of that BGE felt gasket material around both joints, and maybe around the door too, if that would seal the WSM up tight. It would be best to apply the felt to a brand...

The SJS stealing ole OTS 22's thunder...

Hehe...yea, I'm gonna cook one of those seasoned turkey tenderloins in the SJS tonight. I might have to drape something over the OTS's eyes to keep the peace too...

The SJS stealing ole OTS 22's thunder...

Ever since I got this SJS, my ole 22 has seen less and less duty. I am almost feeling like I am being unfair to it in a way. LOL! Just cooked up a couple of NY Strips to (perfection) on the SJS while the OTS was watching wistfully nearby. This little grill is great and will cook anything...

    Smoked Chicken Salad

Oh yes, and it is delish. If you like chicken soup, don't forget to save your smoked carcasses and scraps to simmer for a soup base. Smoked chicken soup is awesome too!

    Trussing Briskets

This question may favor the WSM 18 owners, but have any of you "trussed" a extremely large packer brisket along the long axis in the hopes that you could make it fit better on the WSM 18 ? Even more, have any of you trussed briskets and then could fit 4 on an WSM 18 easier? If you have, did...

anyone travel w/ a OTG kettle?

I know this might sound crazy, but I have travelled with my OTS fully assembled in the truck bed strapped down through the handle on the lid. I mean that the lid was on the kettle and the kettle was in the bed standing up with the wheels in the groves of the bed in a stable way. I ran a...
