WSM Top Vent Stuck

hello, im slightly embarassed to say, that my WSM's top vent is stuck! it takes a pair of pliars and some TLC to get it open each time... once the wsm heats up, its pretty easy to close the vent.

Anyone else run into this? Any advice on unjamming the vent?

It's just a build up of grease and gunk. Use some Greased Lightning or degreaser on it or some vinegar should loosen it up.

Easy off oven cleaner. or hot water and a good de-greaser.

I bay be wrong but I believe Easy Off eats aluminun. You might want to check the lable first. I've had pretty good luck with a cheap engine degreaser.

Vinegar. Best time to use it is after you pull your food off while the wsm is still hot.

Mine gets stuck every once in a while. Once I get it free, I just use warm soapy water and a Scotchbrite pad to clean it....turn a little, clean, turn, etc.

The little tab that keeps it from rotating 360' broke on mine a long time ago. I don't think it necessary for the top vent anyway since it either OPEN or SHUT. So it makes it a little easier to turn the dial and clean underneath it.
