Rick, it will say lump charcoal on the bag. What kinds you can get vary from region to region! Here is a site that compares lump. Good luck!!

Greg, sorry about that. I didn't see your link when I read the post. I would have checked on it to see where it went. Not trying to upstage you are anything like that. Just trying to help out a questioning BBQr.

I now consider myself somewhat educated on Lump!
 
I recently did an overnighter with lump. This is what I tried.

Full water pan, full ring of lump, Minion method started with 15 fully lit Kingsford, waited about 45 minutes until the temp came up and "ignition smell" was gone and put on the butts.

I'm sold, this is the way to go for me.
