Sorry if this has been asked 10,000 times, but...

What's the best way to clean the smoke build-up on the outside of the mid-section of my WSM?

Thanks and have a happy & safe 4th!

Go USA!

Warm water and dish detergent will cut it, but you shouldn't be getting smoke residue on the outside.
The bolts should have fiber washers to make a seal there and sometimes the door needs "massaging" to make it fit tightly.

I've also heard that taking a damp cloth to the outside of the WSM just after a cook, while the sides are still very hot (be careful) is a bit like steam cleaning it. I'll have to try that.

Many thanks, Joe!!

I've used Simple Green to clean mine right before I put a seal around the door to keep it leak free. Got the residue off. After removing the residue, I used a wet paper towel to remove anything left behind from the Simple Green. The gasket now keeps the smoke inside of the WSM and not leaking out of the door.
