WSM 22" Gasket Install

Any... "Tricks of the Trade ", to know about when installing a high temp gasket to eliminate/reduce air leaks?
I've had the WSM 22" for years and love it. Smoked my first whole packer brisket a few weeks ago... 20 hr. Cook. .. was worried all through the night, but damn it was great!

I feel like I blow through charcoal way too fast and want to see if the gasket will help. Need to know if I need to clean surfaces on door and top and bottom sections before installing the gasket....
And if yes ... what solvent or cleaner to use. Any helpful advice is greatly appreciated!

I think using a decent degreaser on the areas where you will be applying the gasket should do the trick. My experience, however, is limited to kettles.

Yes, and after the degreaser, wipe with acetone or nail polish remover (same thing) as a final prime.
I would be cautious about the lacquer thinner or acetone even on the lip. White vinegar or alcohol won’t be toxic and will prep for adhesive back lavalock tape. JMO.

Good point. We always used acetone for a final prep for 3M tape but that was for aluminum windows and doors.
Regular alcohol is a better option.
