Wow! Meat prices.

I guess I've been eating out of my freezer for too long or maybe finding some great deals, but I just went to the meat market today to get a chuck roast and I was shocked. Almost $10lb. This isn't the cheapest place, so I'm sure there's less expensive meat, but still, at about 3 pounds for a pretty average piece of meat, I was just under $30. Still, for the "family over" dinner, way less than going out, but still very surprising and a bit painful. I got my Le Creuset dutch oven to cook it in and I'm looking forward to a good meal with the family (grandkids) today. That will take some of the sting out of the prices. I'll certainly be watching for sales going forward more so than ever before. It's getting rough out there. Wish I'd have restocked sooner. At least I have TP. :)

Yup....unbelievable huh. Right here smack dab in the middle of Alberta beef country...smoking a $40 4.5 pound CHUCK roast today.

I saw a SINGLE rib prime rib roast yesterday.....$73.

Beef is now a "treat" meal for us as opposed to 2-3 times a week.

The only savior at the moment is whole pork loin cuts at Costso were $12 off their price of $25, so for $13, I got a huge loin I cut into 5 5" loin roasts and some extra stir fry cuts....less than $3 a roast!!

Well, the good news is that the meal was great and everyone ate well. The cherry pie was good too :). My daughter is out of town so it was good to help out the son in law with a good meal he didn’t have cook for the kids. Good Sunday family meal time! Makes the cost a little more tolerable.

I'll bet there will be more deer hunters this year.
Unless your smart about it, and handy at butchering, venison can cost more per lb. than beef.
We’re first timers....well I’ve gone elk hunting but that was 20 years ago. Never got anything. We have two antelope out of three down, still three deer tags and I have an elk tag.

I’m butchering and processing myself
