Worth Rebuilding Early Genesis Platinum?

I have an early Genesis Platinum Mica Green NG with the side burner on the right and and stainless steel side table on the left, and two stainless doors. This is the one that has the heavy duty frame. The issue is the frame, which has begun to rust.

I haven't seen any on CL that I could use for parts.....I missed the one for 50.00 on Facebook. I've owned it from new, it still works and its been great.

- I also have all of the parts to rebuild it, New lid and fire box cross members, solid stainless steel grates, on so on most of which which was sent to me from Weber CS.

While I know I can get the cross members, the frame is obsolete and no longer available.

One option is to have a new frame made...have no idea what this would cost, but I'm sure its not going to be cheap

Question.....Is it worth rebuilding or just best to part it out?

Thank you

Kevin

I don't think it is a lost cause at all. Even if the frame is unrepairable, which I doubt, you can find donor grills for under $50 if you are patient and keep your eyes open.
My guess is that the bad part on the frame is where the bolt on the left side attaches the cook box to the frame. You can replace that cross member with either welding or by using insert connectors on a scavenged piece of frame or new piece of square steel stock.

If you post up some photos showing the key parts that you are concerned about, it would be a lot easier for us to help you out with suggestions.

I agree with Bruce. Depending where it is rusted and how bad it is rusted it might be salvageable. Or since you already have all the parts except the frame just keep your eyes open for a donor grill. It is spring time and people are buying new grills or cleaning up the backyard this time of the year. Craigslist, FB Marketplace, 5miles, ... are just some sites people use.

Also search for "Webber" as well. It is amazing how many folks misspell the brand in their ads. I found a curb site pickup yesterday on CL, which only showed up searching with Webber and not with Weber.

These are GREAT cool looking grills, so a restore would be a wonderful thing. I think you would be able to source some new replacement steel. Maybe online or through a local sheet metal shop. I agree that finding a donor would be the most cost effective solution, but it is true that these are old and not that common (unlike the regular Genesis of this era), so your wait could be long. Probably most of what you would find will also be rusty or high priced.

See if you can post pictures for us to better help you. Some metal may be restorable.
