I can buy apple, hickory, cherry and a few others locally. I'd like to try pecan, alder and a few others. Right now it looks like the web is the only place. Does anyone have a favorite or good source to buy from?

As Always.... Thanks,
Rolf

I just found some alder at Home Depot. I suspect you might find some in your HD as we are close enough that I would suspect that our stores are similar.

My local Home Cheapo has Pecan out the gazoo! :)

Try places like Ace Hardware also. There is one near me, that is a Weber dealer.

Ditto V_Rocco. My HD had about 30 bags of pecan chunks yesterday. They had two or three bags of cherry and were out of apple (which is what I wanted). They made up for it with the 9.88 K-Blue special they are running.

A few of the smaller hardward stores sell bags of wood. We also have pool place here that sells smokers and they carry bags of chunks also. You'd be surprised where you might find them so look around.

True Value stores have Pecan and other woods mentioned. If you have one nearby, the ship to store option eliminates shipping cost. From their web site:

Weber Firespice Wood Chips, Pecan, 3-Lbs.
WEBER-STEPHEN PRODUCTS | model # 17002 | item # 118074

MattP - You have True Value stores near you. Some of them even specialize in BBQ and Fireplaces.

We use Fruita Wood Chunks almost exclusively, for comps, catering, backyard, etc. So far I've used of theirs: hickory, pecan, white and red oak, almond, apricot, apple, cherry, peach, pear, alder, mesquite, and grape canes (vines). Everything I've gotten has been top quality, well taken care of, with still plenty of natural moisture and sugars, with just enough time seasoning, in a temperature and humidity-controlled environment. I have my faves from him, but all of the woods have been outstanding. Just worth noting.

EDIT: Forgot the sugar maple, that one's really nice on sweet-profile chicken or pork.
