Wine Barrel wood

I dunno...but I just bought some bourbon barrel wood that I am going to give a go within the next couple weeks.

When I see this it brings tears to my eyes! I live within thirty minutes of a distillery. Years ago, we could go to the distillery and literally get a pick-up truck FULL of whiskey barrels. They are mandated, by law, to be oak. They were whisky soaked from YEARS of aging. We would take axes (my sons and I), break the steel bands and break apart the barrels and load the truck with staves. I used them for FIREWOOD! They are no longer available but I want to cry every time I think of it! I didn't do any smoking at that time so didn't realize what a resource I had. On the other hand, they made WONDERFUL fireplace wood. We would cut up "ricks" of staves.

Shaking my head...

Keep on smokin',
