Window shopping at HD

I was at HD the other day for plumbing stuff but I always have to cruise the grill and bbq section (doesn't everyone?) and I saw this neat little smoker. It has some cool features but of course I have no idea how it would cook. $159 bucks.

In all honesty, the "ECB" cooked pretty good. Granted, it was a little tough maintaining constant steady temp, and unless you modified the charcoal basket, it choked it's self out pretty quickly, but a modded ECB ran OK for the price

I like the large door access and the three cooking shelves and it looks like they put a halfway decent dial thermometer on it. It looks like it might be limited as to how much charcoal it would hold, and if you did open that door during the cook, you'd lose a ton of temp and probably stir some serious ash

That said, I wouldn't buy one, but if someone gave me one, I'd give it a go

I like the idea of having wheels on the smoker, but with the Mini and the 14.5 maybe they are not really needed.
But since I have an older cart from a Genesis, it will become the cart for the 14.5 in the Spring. Something that
I have wondered about is why HD almost always has Brinkmann smokers on display, but hardly any display the WSM's.

Cheap price is obvious to people; not necessarily so with quality.

Agree....some things cooked ok in it (like chicken) but I went to the WSM because it was too hard to use.

:cool:and that I agree with as well.

Something about this design reminds of that Moonshiner's TV show. Does the lid come off that thing?
it didn't look like it to me.

. It may vary from store to store. The ones in my area display weber grills and Brinkmann both

and that is true as well. Sometimes I think they display the webers to get people to pull the trigger easier on the cheaper grills.

Wait till this fall and HD will have them on CL.
I like the laminate flooring look for the door.. Nice touch!

There's a lot of features in that that dog....Wonder if it hunts?

The charcoal pan in the brinkmann looked pretty small...this big one with the firebox might be a better bet. But I'm not giving up my WSM !

They used to offer a square cabinet of that style years ago. Neighbor down the street had one sitting outside his garage for a few years and one day it was gone. A few days later it was on the curb for trash pick-up. I was walking my dogs and and gave it a once over because at that time (pre WSM) I thought I wanted one. Well the bottom and legs were rusted out and that was a good place for it ( in the trash)
I had at that time a 15 yr old Brinkmann Smoke& Pit which was a PITA to use, but it was well made with heavy steel. The newer ones that came out later felt like tin cans at the store.
