Wild Card Pulled Pork

A friend of mine, a Jets fan, asked if I'd cook some Q for the Wild Card game(s) tomorrow...I'll never turn down an opportunity to fire up the WSM.

Rubbed and ready. Spilled a little rub

Not windy now but it is forecast to blow a little tonight so I set up the Wal-Mart wind break.

On around 9:30 p.m. It's a 10# butt and I'm hoping it will go about 15 hrs...Wanting to pull her off the smoker and into the cooler around 12:30 p.m. tomorrow for the transport to the the party.

That's a cool idea for a windbreak, Don

Thanks, $30 at Wal-Mart. I'm sure neither Weber or Ozark Trail would recommend this but I've used it many times with no issues. I used it once in a driving Nor'Easter while camping on the banks of the Chesapeake bay and it worked great as a wind break and a rain cover. The WSM was probably the only dry and windburn free thing in the whole camp that weekend.

Arrrrrrg! I've been fighting temps since 10:30. I just could not get them up. I've done many overnights before with no problems but never in this cold of weather so I just thought that was it. I offset the lid and took the temps up to 260 thinking the cooker may need a little boost. As soon as I put the lid back on they immediately started to drop again and went all the way down below 200 in 15 minutes.

I just had to see what the coals were doing so I did the ol' hot squat to take the middle and lid off. Coals looked fine...Nothing out of the ordinary. I turn around to put everything back together and, there it is, the top vent was half way closed. I am sure I opened it when initially setting up the smoker...Guess not. I don't know why that wasn't the first thing I checked.

Oh well, everything has settled down now, rock solid as usual and it's bed time.

What keeps it from blowing away?? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

When camping or using it on soft ground it stakes down like a tent. When I use it on my stone patio I tie it off to the patio furniture.

Love the idea Don; especially the temp monitor (Maverick?) hanging on the back strap! Thanks. Hope it was a good smoke.

Just pulled her off. Looks and smells really good despite the idiotic operator error last night. She's now resting in a cooler until it will be pulled just before kickoff.

Don, I went onto the Walmart website and couldn't find your windbreak/tent. Do you recall what they call it? If I go into my local WM, what should I ask/look for? thanks.

Here's a link to it on Wal-Mart's site. As others have said in another thread, it looks like it's " Not Available at this time", at least not via Site-to-Store. Your local Wal-Mart may have one though.

You could look in any sporting goods store too, in the camping section. Doesn't have to be this brand any camp shower room that is big enough should work.

Nice butt, Don!

Picked up a couple butts last week and am itching to cook. But the winds of late have kept me from firing up. Sounds like I need to go to WalMart.
