Whole gator on a Ranch Kettle

I like the look of the cook, and I’d probably taste it, but not sure I’d make a meal of gator. Not really into easing lizards. Just a personal policy ...but that leaves more for you. Cheers!

"Curious in the Midwest" asked:

Why would you buy gator from Louisiana when you live in Florida?
I could not find a farm raised gators in-stock in Florida.

State licensed nuisance trappers are allowed by state law to sell their catch as meat. Typically the gators are 7-10 feet long and are sold to processors for hides, tail meat and tenderized nuggets. You can get on a waiting list, but there is no guarantee you’ll get a smaller five foot gator.

There are a few wholesale gator meat processors that supply the local market.

I can drive about three miles from my house and source a wild gator. It’s a class three felony and I don’t want to lose my CWP.

FWC holds an annual lottery for about 7,000 gator hunting tags. About 15,000 hunters apply annually. I’ve never been drawn for a tag.

Cheers
