I was at Whole foods today and sitting outside at the entry there were bags labeled 365, one bag was green and said all natural no chemical briquettes and the other was red and it was natural lump. Anyone every try this? Oddly enough its the first time of run into lump other than the Cowboy lump which I hav eno heard good things about. I've been meaning to get into to using lump but I want some good. I've been using Stubbs primarily for my long cooks. Any thoughts or recommendations anyone?

Richard, for bbq, you probably won't find much better than the Stubbs you're already using, but I love to use lump for grilling. Sam's clubs have a great deal on mesquite lump now. It's Best of the West brand, and it's a big 40lb. bag for $15 if I recall. I opened up mine for the first time this afternoon and was absolutely THRILLED that I had to take my camp shovel and break these massive pieces into manageable chunks....No sarcasm there, because the last 40lb. bag of lump I got was also from Sam's, Frontier brand, but was so full of dust and small particles that I needed THREE grates and some chicken wire to keep it all from falling through.

Bottom line though, if that's all the lump you can get your hands on besides Cowboy, pick up a bag and see what you think. Lumps also better for any grilling that includes a lot of basting, like roadside chicken. It burns down quick, though, so light a lot. I often light two chimneys worth at a time.

I have used it. It is made by cowboy, its the exact same lump, just more money. I bought about 4 bags last fall. Worked fine.
