Whole chickens at Costco

Stopped at Costco this afternoon for a couple of things as we were in the area. Saw the 2 pack of whole chickens for $.49 per pound. I don’t remember if this is their normal price but definitely better than our local grocery store. Bought a 2 pack, removed the outer plastic and put them in the freezer for the next Basic BBQ Chicken cook on the WSM.

Man, that's a steal. I would have bought an extra freezer and filled it with them :)

That's a great price. I can't recall the price last time but it was well over a dollar a pound and cheaper to buy two already cooked rotisserie chickens.

Yep. I just paid $1.32/lb. for a twin pack of Foster Farms birds. IIRC, singles were $1.43/. Best price around here lately.

What timing. I JUST finished transferring ALL of my WHOLE CHICKEN recipes from a 2" binder into a 3" binder.

If anyone needs some ideas on what to do with their chickens, you all know who to ask. (or is it whom?) 🥰

Costco's fowl has been pretty good in my experience. Quarter 'em and smoke or grill them I need to get better at quartering birds.

Joan, if you've got access to ATK's recipes, they have a recipe for spatchcocked chicken roasted over a mushroom leek stuffing (chicken fat in the stuffing is good.) It's DARNED good. And I haven't made it in far too long. The recipe works pretty well in a charcoal grill. Side note: I frequently will make a double stuffing batch under a single bird. My g/f & I fight over the brown crunchy corner bits.

I usually split them and smoke them. I might stop by Costco tomorrow and get some more if the price is the same. My upright freezer in the garage is pretty full. We were in PA a couple of weeks ago and stocked up from the butcher my family has been going to for over 50 years. Ring bologna, Lebanon bologna, bacon, sausage, beef sticks and scrapple. Also have what’s left of 2 deer and 2 pork butts I got at $.99 per pound. Could probably squeeze in another 2 pack of chicken. 😀

Went back to Costco and picked up two more 2 packs. There was a couple behind us at the register with a case of chickens with there name on the box, six 2 packs. They told us there son works there and told them they should take advantage of the low price. According to them, someone at Costco ordered the wrong amount and need to get rid of them due to space constraints. Works for us.

Thanks for the tip.
I’m going to pick some up today if our Costco has them.
I’ve been wanting to bbq a spatchcock chicken for a while.
The other one will probably get quartered and find it’s way into our crab pots.
I will trade 49 cent chicken for crab all day long.
