Hello everyone-

Looking for some advice on which grill to choose. I am torn between the simplicity (of lighting) and table space with the performer, albeit at a premium; the 22.5 One Touch Gold (at about $200 less than the Performer) with the charcoal disposal system; or the One Touch Platinum with the very nice side table (the only noticeable difference (at least that I saw) from the Gold) for an additional $100.

I currently have a Weber Genesis Silver gas grill and a Smokey Mountain Cooker (18.5), so this will be my third grill on a relatively small deck (appx 15x15, with a concrete patio three steps down from the elevated deck).

Here are the links for your reference. Thanks again guys,
Fred

Hi Fred... You have a gasser and a smoker so now any charcoal fired Kettle, with any optional side table or lighting devices you like will round out your devices...

If space is at a premium on your deck, I'd choose the One Touch Gold. The Performer, while a great grill, takes up a good deal more space. As you already have the side tables of the gas grill - and perhaps a side burner that can be used to light the chimney -- the Performer's key features aren't as important.

I've seen the One Touch Platinum but I find the roll back lid set up is a bit awkward to use, and the two small tables aren't as useful as one big one. I think Weber is charging too much for this grill as well.

I think the OTG gives you everything you need and saves money at the same time.

Fred its easy get the 26" kettle and do not look back. I buy the duraflame starters at walmart to start the charcoal in a chimmy or a pile of charcoal in the kettle. These are the best charcoal starters imo.

All personal preference of course, but for me, paying that much for a kettle (performer) is ridiculous. It's a metal bowl that you put burning embers in. No need to pay half your rent money on it. I'd go with OTG, 26" if you can fit it. You'll get more use out of it, though the smaller is fine too.

unless you cook alot then stick with the regular gold. if you really need a table, weber makes a nice little side table. but for sure check out craigs list for some $$$$ savings.

How often do you find the Genesis is not large enough for your needs?

I can't justify the added cost for the side tables on the Platinum.

If you sometimes find you need something larger than the Genesis, I would go for the 26.75 One-Touch Gold.

Many like the ease of the Performer. I use my gas side burner to light coals so this benefit is lost with me.

Vote - One-touch Gold 22.5 (up it to 26.75 if you occasionally need more grilling area)

One-touch Gold gets my Vote,
The new Performers and Platinums are so expensive, and for what? table space?. Craigslist is a good source if you want to save a buck. It takes patients finding what you want, but sometimes people find really good deals there.

OTG also.. If you have a propane torch you can light it like this. And if you're handy you can make your own side table like this.

Tim

One-Touch Gold is preferred for me. Inexpensive and like others have mentioned, you could use your current side table or buy an attachment for it later if needed.

Be sure to check Craigslist in your area.

"Like new" Performers can be found for about $100.

And OTG's will be about half-price.

If space is at a premium, the an OTG is the way to go.

As others have said, buy the Performer, but not new. Plenty of deals out there if you can be patient. I got my new in box Crate and Barrel green Performer for $135. Had to drive just over an hour each way to get it, but it was worth it. If you can't wait, and/or cook for a crowd, get the 26" OTG.

I have my WSM, a Kenmore gasser and my Performer on a roughly 10'x14' patio and there's plenty of space for a few large planters, and a plant stand with several small herb pots on it. Though I don't really entertain or hang out there - it's just an area between my deck and the lawn.

I don't like the new platinum at all.

Say it with me 26.75! If you cook your entire meal or most of it the majority of the time and you cook for more than 3 most of the time you will enjoy the room! This will be my next purchase without a doubt!

I myself would go with the Perfomer. I would give up my gas gril;l for one of those most definately.

Notice the tag lines, it looks like those that prefer the OTG don't use a Performer, and those that use a Performer recommend it. I'm with the later.
Hands down..get the Performer, you'll be glad you spent the extra cash.

I was all set to buy the 26.75, but saw reviews on Amazon saying that the legs are flimsy and that there were fears about them holding up under the heavier grill.

Should I be concerned or just go for it?

i wouldn't worry. yes they might move but havn't read of any collapse unless it was severely abused.
besides, i'm sure weber would take care of any issues under warranty.
