as we leave, at least for the average Q'er, the BBQ season, just wondering when the sales start for charcoal or lump. Or are there no sales?

thx

havn't seen one around here for years. i think most retailers are finding that they don't have to put that stuff on sale to sell it. especially since grilling has become more popular.

Sales seem to be around the major summer holidays like Memorial Day or July 4th. I'm not familiar with "end of season" sales of charcoal this time of year.

EDIT: Sorry, I missed the fact you were asking specifically about lump. I was referring to sales on briquettes. I've not seen lump sales around here.

You guys in the south bay, do you have access to quality lump and/or briquettes? Up here in the North Bay it's pretty slim unless I order online, at least I haven't found a good resource. I just wanted to start trying the different quality lumps/briquettes mentioned in other posts.

I finished 'stocking up for winter' last week. Had to get some more before it's all put away for the winter.

No sales for me though. Went to a store that carried Royal Oak Oak Plus briqs (red and yellow bag) ,,, they've stoped carrying it and it's some black bag no brand from China. Oh well, should be better than nothing. $7.49 /18lbs

I think the prices go up durring winter here

Less people buying it, so its taking up space (up the price). I have a bad feeling I'm going to run out of lump this winter

I wonder if Wallyworld still has RO, too bad I'm broke. Grr.

I am gonna quess that this is Canadian Tire. Around here they carry briquettes from China called Hosburg. They are not even able to get anything else. With all the crap that China puts in everything else, do I really want to use that to cook my food, I dont think so. If you have a Home Hardware Store in your area, they carry K briq and Maple Leaf Lump in Ontario, I would assume that you can get it in Alberta also.

royal oak lump at wal-mart in connecticut 5.27 for 10lb bag, i had to ask and it took some time for the clerk and myself to find it, all the seasonal stuff was packed up and stored in there gaden center. it pays to ask sometimes you find someone who is very helpful.

I have never seen lump on sale. I stocked up in late August. I went to a Wal Mart and they only had two bags. I got some help from a store representative. She had a hand held device and was able to check the supply in local area stores. She found one with 24 bags. I took the last two and headed off to the other store. The stuff is seasonable in SLC

I bought my first bag of Royal Oak lump (USA) at HellMart for the same price ($5.27). Haven't fired it up yet but hope to do so soon. I'm wanting to switch from K briquets, but I AM an old dog....

Around here places run out of lump in fact good lump around here is already gone for the season. Only place I can get it year round is at Gordon Food Service. Never ever on sale though.

Chris D, I haven't seen any major deals around the south bay lately either.

I noticed that Home Depot has the 22.5 inch OTG for less than $140 though. I paid $45 more than that for the 18 inch back in 2003 on Amazon.

Tom,

At this point I'd be happy just finding some quality lump, it's proving to be a challenge without ordering online. Not opposed to ordering online, just would like something local.

BJ's has had 2-21lb bags of Kingsford on sale for about a month now for $13.85. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>Hmmm, that's the normal price at Home Depot. When it's on sale, it's like $8 or 9 for that same bundle.
