What do you do with the lid?

So where do you put the lid to the wsm when you take it off?

I put it on a shelf on my grill and watched it fall...hit on the handle and dimpled the lid where the handle attaches.

I have a 2 foot square piece of plywood that I throw down next to my smoker, works great.

I've been wondering if the WSM lid will fit into the slide-aside add-on for kettles. You would have to figure out a different way of attaching the slide aside as it wouldn't work on the WSM.

Steve that really sucks. I normally put my lid on the ground propped up so the entire lid insn't touching the ground. I've been trying to think of a better place to put it. I will leave out a shelf on a grill as an option.

Steve,

I had a similar thing happen; destroyed my lid mounted thermometer.

Now I use an old round glass table top I had laying around. Lay it down on the deck, set the lid on the glass. Easy to clean, no stains on the deck and best of all, it can't fall!

I use an oil drip pan for the wsm to sit on. There is enough space to put the lid on it as well.....and no worries about the grease ring left behind.

When I'm done, the pan gets put away, out of sight.

Same as Craig in toll city.

My pan isn't long enough to set the lid down flat ~ Sits up on the lip which leaves almost no grease to clean up.

I use my old ECB the lid fits on top very nicely, I also use it to light my charcoal chiminy.

I use 3 bricks, placed like the spokes of a wheel to set my lid on. It keeps everything underneath from getting a grease ring and is heatproof.

I just sit it in the grass. I don't have any dogs dirtying the place up or anything, so what the heck? I was sitting it on my brick paver patio, but I didn't want to chip the porcelain. As long as I haven't just cut the grass, not much ever sticks to it and if it does, well, I guess we needed a little garnish anyway.

I do the same as Bill and my drip pan is large enough to set the lid flat if I wanted. Propping it up on the edge of the drip pan leaves very little of the lid touching anything.

Thats funny, I use my Brinkman water pan FOR an oil pan for the bike lol. Glad I bought 2 when they were on sale.

I just put it on the lawn and try to avoid any landmines my two dogs may have planted. It's hot enough inside the cooker to kill anything that gets on the lip.

I still put the lid on a piece of cardboard so that the porch does not get stained and I can easily discard when it gets too dirty. What I PLAN to do is as follows:
But a plant hanger with a large hook ("S" shaped) that will normally have a hanging basket on it. When I grill, I will remove the hanging basket. When I need to remove the lid and "set it" someplace, I will use the handle to hang it from the plant hanger. If this is too awkward, plan B is as follows:

Install a wooden post and attach a bike hanger like the one below:
bike hanger
about 2’ down from the top of the post. When I take the lid off, the ring of the lid will rest on the two hooks of the bike hanger and the top of the lid will rest against the wooden post.

I use a rubber door mat that's big enough to allow a four-point landing. I was thinking, however, about trying one of those garden flag hangers-- should have sufficient height and extension to keep the rim unscathed.
