So, I know it's not a gas grill or a Weber product but I've been kind of eyeing these things and this company makes quality products (Solo Stove). Anyway guy even threw in the cover and the thing is all basically brand new. He literally fired it up once but then ended up not using it again. Solo Stove Pi Fire Pizza Oven :D Anyway I scored the whole kit and caboodle for $80 (it's just shy of $500 with the cover).

Yeah, here I am grabbing a pizza oven while wife is in hospital for her BIg C surgery. She's like "great!" Maybe we can have pizza when I get home" LOL

Nice Larry! You'll be having some serious custom pizza soon! How hot can it get?
It says on the literature 900 deg in 30 min. Is 900 necessary? IDK. I've never done a pizza on a stone before. Neither has my wife. So it's all new to me. Literally a whole new learning experience. Plus I have to buy accessories as it doesn't come with any. I.E. Solo sells various peels (wood or stainless steel), a long handled pizza "turner". IDK do you need a turner AND a peel?. They sell a stainless steel bristled cleaning brush for the stone. Couldn't I simply use one of my Libman brushes?
There is so much in front of me I don't know anything about. So I have lots to learn. And IDK when she'll be able to make pizza dough again. Due to the surgery there are some physical restrictions on physical exertion. So, tons of stuff to look into. Snagging the oven at the deal I did was only part of the battle :D

You definitely need the steel peel. This one peel can serve for launching, turning and removing.

If you want to turn the pizza inside the oven, you can get a turning peel, but you can only use it if the pizza is smaller than the cavity of the oven. I believe the solo pi is a 12” oven so a turning peel probably wouldn’t even be needed unless you make 10” pies regularly.

The wooden peel is for stretching the dough, building the ingredients and launching the pizza into the oven. You can do all of this with your steel peel, but you won’t be able to make pizzas continuously… consider if you want to entertain and make multiple pies one after another.

There are many many videos for all things pizza

It all sounds exciting. I hope your wife does well with her recovery. It's strange that this thread came up - today I looked at a Genesis 2000 ten minutes from my house and the owner stated the family would make excellent pizza with it by using a stone on the grates. I had never heard of that on any Genesis, Silver or x000. I didn't think the temp got high enough.

Many folks here have done it I guess. When I had Dave Santana build custom grates for my Wolf I had him do them with only .25" spacing, so we could do pizzas right on the grates. I would run the 6 lower burners on a mid level setting and the infrared rotisserie burner flat out to give heat all around the pizza.

I do pizzas in my genesis grills. Works great from me. But an upper IR burner would be great and a dedicated fancy pizza oven would be even better.
Larry, I think you got one heck of a score there.
