Went Apple Picking... (BBQ related)

Went to New Paltz the other day with the kids and wife for apple picking.

Ask the owner of the farm if he had firewood. Yes, he responds. They have apple. What else right? Anyway, I ask him how much, he tells me $55 for a bundle. Not exactly sure how much that was but I couldn`t come to grips paying that kind of money for something he had so much of... I explained I just needed 2-3 nice pieces around a foot or two. He was only selling them in bundles. I left w/o purchasing any.

Frustrating...

Why not ask to see how much is in a bundle? A bundle could have been half a truck load for all you know. You go the whole way there and then walk away without seeing how much a bundle was/is? I don't get it

I went there to get apples which we did. He explained to me what a bundle was, I walked over and it wasn`t much. Maybe ten 18" sticks... it wasn`t much.

That's WAY too much to pay for apple wood, especially in NY. Might I suggest you head upstate and drop by some of the farms. I'm sure they'll be happy to share some for free - especially after a nice wind storm. Any time you can get free wood , GRAB IT. There's no shortage of fruit trees in NY state, not to mention maple and a few others I can't remember. Good luck.

FYI: there's a guy in my locale who is selling fresh cut green pear for $60/half cord.

Wow! $55 a bundle? I picked up split apple logs (triangular, about 3" x 3" x 5" or so) about 15" long for $0.75 each from one of my local orchards.

Its a win-win as we all felt like we got a deal.

Wow, are you serious? haha

I'm going apple-picking tomorrow (Easton, CT) and hope to grab some wood for free. I have some apple chips here that I haven't used this summer so I won't sweat it if they don't give me the hook-up!

dumb farmer here! He surely won't fetch a dime on rotted wood in which is going to eventually happen! He ought to make a few bucks while he can.

I see signs around here for a face cord of oak for around $75. $55 for a bundle is waaaaay too much no matter what kind of wood. Good going walking away.

hi, did you pick up apple wood?I'd like to know which apple orchards offer apple wood ,thanks

My father uses apple wood in his fireplace. He lives around several large orchards and the farmers tell him which trees he can have. They are visiting us in Texas in Novemeber, so I'm having him bring me several logs down with him
