Weird Effect

So, as many know I lost quite a lot of weight. Well in excess of 50lbs. Mostly due to last July (2023) my doc deciding to try me on Mounjaro. Also due to my A1C being a bit out of control since I'm also a Type 2 diabetic. So the past 17 months have been helpful. One side effect I did notice was a bit of loss of muscle tone. IDK if it's strictly due to weight loss and effect of the med or not. So, I decided it's time to hit my home gym (I have a large machine from a company called Body Solid Very similar to this one. But now I'm seeing my weight rising. Since last week about 4lbs! Now I know muscle is more dense but this much in less than a week? Yikes! Not gonna stop the routine but somehow feel like I'm going a little "backwards" LOL

One of the side effects of that class of drug is loss of muscle mass, I’ve noticed it myself I’ve also noticed reduced stamina. There will be a conversation with my doctor since he wants to add another drug to the mix, I do NOT want more drugs!

I am sure lots of people are in work outs or have gym memberships.....
I did it for a number of years but no longer go to the gym to work out.
Muscle does weigh more....but working out for a week wouldn't be the cause if indeed you gained weight would be my perspective.
Way too many things to put into perspective in this scenario.
Basically if you want to work out it takes a while to start gaining mass.......
I would start at weighing yourself at the same time each time you weigh in.....say 8am every Monday morning or something similar....
I believe that I weigh less in the morning before I start putting junk in my body.
A person can fluctuate in weigh by many pounds in a day

The weight loss be it done on purpose or not sounds like a benifit to me.........
I was gaining weight due to a handful of reasons...all my own doing of course.
Currently I have dropped 20 pounds by simply changing my diet and a few habits for the most part......
5'11' and now coming in at 192 pounds........I have a goal set for 180 which was 185......
A total loss of about 32 pounds is what I expect to see and with Christmas in the way it could take to about mid to late January.
Christmas gets in the way a wee bit but I can still be reasonable....
I day of eating bad won't make you fat much like 1 day of dieting won't make you skinny.......
I wish I had the desire to do it all again...the weight training that is.......the commitment is massive........on the other hand eating really healthy and getting some activity in on the reg also does no harm and is where I am currently situated myself.

My current diet without getting into it is basically eating meat, veggies and the odd sampling of fruit.
Limit my alcoholic beverages drastically to just a few and only a couple days per week.....
So lots of BBQ, and veggies....its squash season up here still so the grub has been tasty.
Limit my poisons....people don't want to hear it but sugar is the enemy........if you can go carb free which is harder than it sounds gives you the best chances out of everything to start knocking pounds off....
There are many other terrible things to avoid but this is not what I came here to talk about.
I don't want to lecture give give my best advice.

Pharma drugs is something I do not know a ton about...I also try to abstain as much as possible.
The last 5 years or so I have dedicated some of my time to learning about natural healing.......
I have learned lots and a simple statement that took some time to grab a hold of was...... " food is medicine "
The western diet is extremely complicated these days with convenience becoming a major role but the return of that is unfavourable.
Like I said before, meat, veggies...made from scratch. Even better if you know who raises your cow and if you grow your own veggies.
It's a lot of work.

I weigh in at least every 3 days, and always the same time range (between 0530-0630). It just seemed odd to me. My diet isn't different (fairly protein heavy and veg heavy), Rarely having alcohol (since the med cut my desire for it even though I still like it). I.E. I've not had a beer for about 5 weeks and even then was only a small glass, Had a small cocktail (a tiny bit of single malt and a little ice), this past Sunday.
Just seemed like a large "jump" what with the only change being back on my weight machine.
I'll continue on the workout routine, and see where my body weight goes. And yeah I am used to seeing +- up to 3lb variation from one weigh in to the next.
The dietician at my specialists office told me it's normal to see 5lb or more day to day. I've yet to see that but this AM was a little bit of a shocker. :D

I gained a lot of weight since I retired a few years ago.
Enough to where I might be replacing a knee in the near future.

I’ve declared war against the pounds recently and might even place my sourdough starter into the deep sleep.
This last month I started hitting the gym for low/no impact cardio and upper body strength.
My muscles are coming back faster than any weight loss that the gym does for me.
Staying away from calories is the path.l

My doctor told me I won’t see any weight loss from the gym to account for much.
It’s limiting the calorie intake that will make the difference.

I used to be very athletic and somewhat muscular.
It is my understanding that once you have built muscle tissue it will come back earlier than never having much muscle.

Larry Csonka is one of my favorite celebrities so I think that you could have done much worse with a nickname.
The ‘72 Dolphins had my attention all season long when I was in grammar school reading about them in the schools Weekly Reader Magazine.
I loved watching his outdoor/fishing show too.
I really need to revisit those shows on YouTube.
It’s also kinda interesting that his woman is also Terry Bradshaw’s kid sister 🫣.

The funny thing was when friends coined that nick name for me, I had no clue who he was. Sadly I cannot find a photo from back then but they did it because how much he resembled me. Same moustache, hairstyle (yep I had hair then :D ), and then when I began body building kind of same build type. At the time I was just shy of 6'3 30" waist and about 220 lbs. Now? ehh not so much LOL

I've been on Tirzepatide (research, not prescribed) since Labor Day Weekend. I put on a ton of fat driving a truck for 18 months. I've lost 32 LBS so far and looking to lose another 10, maybe 15 LBS. I too lost muscle mass, I don't know if it's necessarily the Tirzepatide or not, but to combat the muscle mass loss

I'm doing free weights (dumbells) while watching TV
Ankle weights while walking Blu
Sit up & Squats (gawd I hate doing these)

I just had labs done yesterday, should get the results Friday. Very curious to see the results and compare them to the labs I had done mid 2023

Good work Chuck.....
Like I was saying above.....I have only changed my dietary intake ( basically ) and when I am done ( should be end of JAN ish ) I will hit my goal weight which is about 32 pounds lost......( 180lbs )
I feel so much better already.

To me it is the bloating for the major part of it.
Once that was taken care of I just simply feel more skinny and definitely feel lighter.

Keep it up, it WILL BE WORTH IT.........
I drink water almost 100% of the time......

Yes Tirsepitide is the "parent" drug of Mounjaro and Wegovy. You should be watching your blood glucose levels CAREFULLY. When I first went on it I had a couple of pretty nasty blood sugar crashes. One which would have nearly put me on the Obits list here from Chris. Thankfully my wife called my youngest daughter who hustled her butt over here and saved her old man.
I would highly recommend maybe you buy the Dexcom Stelo. It's OTC less than $90 a month and at the least saves you from tons of finger pricks. https://www.stelo.com/
I use it's "big brother" the Dexcom G7. Quite a lot more expensive but better for my needs. With my insurance about $150 a month. But, it's been a lifesaver in a few instances (literally and figuratively)

I think I remember that, that was in the last year or so, right? My Glucose, Serum hasn't been below 100 in over a decade (this week's labs were 105) but it has come down from 118 a year ago. Normal is 70-99, so if I can get below 100, I'll be a happy camper

I have never heard it expressed in that manner. My meters read mg/dl, so between 70-180 is "normal" depending on whether or what I've eaten or not eaten (or drank), time of day, etc. Then there is A1C and doc says less than 6.5 or some such number is what they want. IDK, mostly greek to me
