Weber Kettle Performer Mods

Hi all,
I’m planning to modify my existing performer cart by adding a second kettle, exactly like the one in the picture with the green and black kettle from this post. I’ll disassemble the entire cart and have it powder-coated black, then drop the second grill in after reassembling everything.

I have two questions about this mod:
  1. I can’t tell from the picture, but it looks like the gas assist may not be compatible with this setup (though it’s not essential for me). Has anyone tried this mod and can confirm?
  2. I’ll lose table space with this mod. Does anyone have suggestions for adding a front detachable table, or is it better to do without?
Any feedback or suggestions before I dive in would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Cheers
Andrew

Sounds like a cool project! I can't help with any mods but post some pics once you start making some progress on this!

Metal table on your performer or plastic?
If metal you could stretch the frame on the right with angle irons and slide that kettle over to make room for a metal table cut similar to the SS performer mods in that post.
You would have to do some good MacGyvering to get the gas assist to work on one, let alone two, but it's prolly doable.
Looking forward to whatever you decide on!

I posted over in the gasser section. My Performer restoration. I'm just used to posting over there but I probably should have posted over here.

Hey Josh,

That turned out very nice!!! I'm hoping to have mine look similar to yours, the only difference is I'll be adding a 2nd kettle to it once I remove the table. Would you mind sharing the link to the wheels you've got on there? I'm looking for some better ones as well and I do like those you've got.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Andrew,
I restore gas Webers and had that extra set laying around off of a Genesis ii 2016-2022. They come in gray but I painted them black. I had to cut 3/4" off the axle to make these work.

Thanks Josh! I live in Munich and will be coming over to the US for work in June so hopefully can grab some spare parts when I'm over. The selection here in Germany isn't great. I've seen the new Kettle stealth edition that just came out. That looks very nice as well! I wonder if I can get some of those spare parts for my 2 performers in the stealth edition (ash catcher, damper, wheels, etc) I'd probably just but the parts and take them back if they were available to buy.

Very nice to meet you Andrew. Definitely share some pictures of your projects. We always love to see what others are building. If you have any more questions about anything I'm always happy to help with anything that I can and others here are also.

Andrew.
If you buy those wheels which Josh suggests, you may want buy some 3/8" (9.5mm) shaft collars for the axles. Much better than the 'R' clips that are provided, & are cheap to buy. They will allow you to snug the wheel against the legs & no dreaded wheel wobble. I bought some 3rd party replacement wheels & did this.

Edit: Pic below is when I had the stock wheels.

3rd party wheels. [I used a rare-earth button magnet for a clean finish to the axle/collar].

Are you able to fit the center cap over that? It doesn't look like it. If the center cap does still fit it looks like it could be a viable option. The way I have my wheels installed there is zero wheel wobble. I can take pictures. Not sure if it's as important to you to have a Weber wheel as it is to me versus a completely different wheel. Just depends what you're looking for.

Au contraire.

Edit: The Weber wheels are, in my opinion, cheap 'n' nasty. "R" clips? Are you kidding me? I must admit they are marginally better than those push-on caps. "The Sacred Orb" deserves better.
