Water in my WSM

It was raining yesterday and when I got home from work I went to check on my WSM charcoal bowl was full of water is this common.

yes.
without the WSM properly covered, rain LOVES the WSM.
Remember, your lid fits INSIDE the middle section of the WSM, thus allowing melted snow, dew even rain to find a home at the bottom of your NEW WSM. And it SUCKS!
So, cover your WSM when not in use.
I use a VERY lagre plastic bag over it THEN the supplied Weber cover to hide the ugly plastic bag.

I hope this helps.... ;)

Another option is to turn the middle section upside down.

I guess the cover would be completely waterproof if you went to the trouble of sealing the seams, but mine is mainly to keep dust and such off. I don't find myself using it much, though.

My wsm is so old it didn't have a cover. Ordered one from The Cover Store if you need one. Still would need the trash bag since it is vented. Lucky for me, my pit area is covered.

No need for a trash bag if the top vents are in good shape. I usually leave mine under the eave, but have left the 18.5" out on the patio with the middle section upside down during downpours and not a drop of water was found in the bowl.

Rene, by the way....you probably know this, but the other two precautions of wsm storing are just like with the kettles. Leave the bottom vents open to avoid mold and if your grates aren't greasy enough, spray some cooking oil on them so they won't rust.
