Walmart Site

Anyone noticed you cannot got to Walmart.com anymore? You reach the site and it automatically blocks you unless you make an "account" with them. Ridiculous. Just one more reason to not buy from them

I recently had the same experience you had. I think I needed athletic socks for my kid. We ended up going to the store because I don't want a Walmart account. However, I'm sure they'll get me someday. I was recently shopping online for a replacement trigger switch for a cordless reciprocating saw. If Walmart was the only place that had it, I sure as heck would have gotten the account to avoid buying a new saw.

Not sure what the big deal is.

I don't see that walmart.com blocks you at all
You need to make an account to check out is the only thing

If you're going to buy something you're going to need to put in an address, name and a credit card number, and email and phone number

There's not much else an account consists of. Except a password.

I usually check out of merchants as a guest.... But that does create issues of not having all your purchases in one place with them. You need the order # for some of them to find your purchase with them.
Can't keep track of passwords for places like that.... If you ever need the password again you just enter your email address and reset password

For me, the big deal is exactly the uncertainty, not the creation of yet another password. A major company is making me jump through hoops that I didn't formerly have to jump through. Why? They could have left a "sign in as guest" option. They didn't, so I'm left to assume that there is something going on that they are not telling me about.

I only use their site to either check a price or if we need to get something to see if in stock before I waste a trip

That's weird, I went to Walmart.com on my phone and it let me look at whatever I wanted. Like @MartinB mentioned, if you want to buy something some information is going to be needed. I personally don't consider Walmart any less worthy than eBay or Amazon, who also require your info to purchase items.

But not to simply look
No, I think that part is a little strange. Like I said, I can access it myself so I don't know why you can't. I do have the Walmart app on my phone because I like to look things up before I go in there too, that's how much I dislike going to Walmart.

I'm not having this issue. I can browse walmart.com all I want, look at products and see prices, and I'm not logged in.

Try clearing browser cookies/cache to see if that fixes things.

I have this same experience. You also don't need to enter credit card info if you do have an account as they offer PayPal as a payment option.

I did some research on it. Turns out, because I don't use a "ground based" ISP service anymore i.e. Xfinity or some such other band of thieves, but instead use FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) i.e. T-Mobile internet they don't like that and now want me to "prove" my identity. A search shows this going back about 2 or 3 years when FWA first began showing up.. I only go in there if there is nowhere else to get something. I will pay more for something to avoid going in a Walmart. That's how much I hate it. So no great loss for me. Just found it weird

They are but in VERY different manners (at least to the shopping experience), Though quite honestly because our Walmart is next door to the Sam's Walmartians are beginning to appear at Sam's and it's making the whole experience in there almost "creepy" at times. Like once out I need to have a shower.

There was a lot of chatter in the late 20th early 21st century about how Walmart was forcing their suppliers to cut costs that forced many to shut down their US manufacturing and export the jobs to China.

I would be very hard pressed to ever set foot in a Walmart because of that.

But I march to the beat of a different drummer, as my mom reminds me from time to time.

We do live in a free country.

The same can be said for Home Depot and Lowes. In fact, Home Depot appears to be on a purge spree of American made tools lately. They ditched Estwing and Klein Tools recently.
